It’s cold, wet and windy….
Hence Karrinyup and Osborne Park Rotary are out there, making a difference:

Karrinyup Rotary kindly donated 140 left over beanies from the Big Freeze fund-raiser, and Osborne Park arranged for them to be used in the community:

- 18 beanies went to Brenda Thorne, for people who need them in Boddington.
In addition tools for a young man who will use them in his new job. Thanks Les!

- 40 beanies to Nigel Wilkes- Aboriginal Elder and his wife Alice Kearing, for the Kenwick community.

- 70 beanies went to No Limits Perth.

Thank you for linking in with Rotary.

Our recent guest speaker was Reuben Taylor from the Meridien Global Foundation.
The foundation started in Perth in 2006 when a group of local business people decided that their donations to charity would be more impactful through a giving circle.
The Meridien giving circle was established on the basis that Meridien would receive donations, donate half of the receipts to the selected charities, and invest the other half of the funds.
Organisations over 3yrs old are assessed on: Sustainability; impact; empowerment; innovation and inspiration.
Over the last 20 years the Foundation has raised $1.4 million and donated $725,000.
They have built long-term relationships with the charities they have supported, thereby ensuring the results and accountability for their donations.

Our recent guest speaker was Helen Fowler, a psychologist with a local practice. Helen discussed the book ”The Let Them Theory” by Mel Robbins.

The book deals with the stress of trying to control our environment and the stress that comes with that. For example, if we are trying to control our employees, our families and others, it can be very stressful and is generally unsuccessful - We can control ourselves, not others.

Stress is bad for our health so we need to
reduce stress. We can do this by putting boundaries around tasks and activities i.e. let them do their thing but let yourself do your thing by putting in limits.

The book encourages you to ‘Unlock the power of your influence and to
‘Model the behaviour you want to see.’
-‘The more you rescue, the more they sink.’

Set your own expectations and accept others.

A wonderful evening with the local Ukrainian community at the Scarborough amphitheatre as they celebrated Vyshyvanka Day last Friday. Beautiful embroidered outfits, stunning dancing, lovely choir performances with a special sunset in the background.

Many of the Ukrainian community have arrived in Australia in the last 4 years on temporary protection visas as a result of the Russian invasion of their homeland. They have settled into Australia and contributed to the local communities but are still unsure they will be able to stay permanently.
