THINGS RETIRED RACEHORSE OWNERS ARE TIRED OF HEARING

Standardbreds aren't pretty...
Retraining is too much work...
Standardbreds can't canter...
An OTT could never compare...

These are all comments based off stereotypes and misconceptions.
Below is the truth:

Standardbreds are uniquely beautiful.
Retraining is hard work, but also incredibly rewarding and fulfilling!
Standardbreds can canter with the right support and encouragement.
Retired racehorses don't need to compare. They're in a league of their own!

Don't let outside voices ruin your fun. Owning a retired racehorse is a journey filled with discovery, adventure and little successes!

COMFORT ME

Racing bid Comfort Me a happy retirement back in December of 2025. Since then, heโ€™s been turning his hooves to a new career chasing down more wins.

Having earned $1.7 million in prize money, โ€˜Ratty Twoโ€™ is known for putting a smile on peopleโ€™s face; no matter who it is, Ratty knows how to please. That winning streak hasnโ€™t fizzled out with Comfort Me recently claiming his first off the track win to add to his resume of accolades.

Competing at only his second eventing start at Murray Eventing CCI-s with Kariss Whitfield, Ratty continues to surprise his connections. Competing against a field of 32 starters, Ratty once again came out on top to win the OTT 65cm class, proudly sponsored by Off the Track WA.

It might not be the same glitz and glamour of a racing win, but this does mark a super new chapter in Comfort Meโ€™s life. Heโ€™s now tackling a new career in eventing (dressage, jumping and cross country) and clearly enjoying himself along the way. Not to mention, he gets to continue his success with the same people who cared for him throughout his racing career.

Congratulations to Kariss for her efforts in retraining this powerhouse of a horse. Weโ€™re sure there are many Comfort Me fans who will be thrilled to see that he continues to bring his best to the competition, no matter what the task is.

Comfort Me is just one of many retired racehorses excelling in equestrian sports. Thoroughbreds are the ultimate athletes on AND off the track!

THE BENEFITS OF ATTENDING AN OTTWA CLINIC

Clinics are a great environment for your retired racehorse to learn amongst their peers. Whether you are seeking to introduce your horse to work beyond the comfort of home, or looking to fine tune your skills, clinics offer something for everyone.

Our last clinic had 32 retired racehorses with varying degrees in experience off the track. Whether it was Joe refining his advanced dressage, RockNKansas practising her pole work, or Prince of Paradox working to establish his green flatwork, we had something for every horse to benefit from.

The benefit of an OTTWA Clinic is an understanding community. Everyone acknowledges where their horse has started and understands the process that it takes to introduce them to a new career. Thereโ€™s no judgment, just a friendly and welcoming team of coaches, staff and peers willing to give you a hand.

If you are feeling stuck or hesitant about what to do next with your new retired racehorse, considering joining us at an OTTWA Clinic. The OTTWA team are more than happy to answer your questions and provide guidance where we can! Coaches are also a valuable resource for new owners; participating at clinics gives you an opportunity to try out coaches before committing to weekly lessons!

We love seeing everyoneโ€™s smiling faces after their lessons. Teaching a retired racehorse a new skill and way of life is possibly the most rewarding part of owning an off the track horse, and we love to be involved in helping you and your horse reach your goals.

Our next clinic is an Encouragement clinic, perfect for first timers!
