St John is the leading provider of first aid and paramedic services in the Northern Territory, delivering day-to-day emergency care, providing volunteer first aiders and high quality first aid products, equipment and training. We are a self-funded charity directly linked to the Order of St John which is a long established global organisation that can trace its roots back over 900 years. The organisation has been in Australia since the 1800s and in Darwin since the 1950s. We work hard to build resilience in the NT community through everything that we do. From teaching first aid to restocking first aid kits, through to our paramedics and volunteers and their service to the community. We undertake important projects such as Community Education and First Aid in schools where we provide free non-accredited first aid training to remote communities, new parents and in schools, as well a Public Access Defibrillator project where we aim to have 1,000 public access defibs in the community by the end of 2021. As a charity, all profits from our products and services, such as first aid training, first aid kits or patient transfers, are put straight back into the community through our volunteer program.

Georgia is recognised for her professionalism, compassion and contribution to training and supporting her colleagues in the ECC.

Hannah has demonstrated strong clinical leadership through her training and quality role, supporting her peers and helping maintain high standards in emergency communications. (For all you eagle eyes, we may or may not have borrowed Hannah’s 5yr service anniversary pic so that we could get her lovely smile in our post 🤭)

This Halloween, the scariest thing our paramedics should face is a costume. Not violence.

In the early hours of this morning, two St John NT paramedics were inside their ambulance in Malak when a person allegedly swung a heavy metal chain with a padlock attached into their windscreen.

Thankfully, neither paramedic was injured, but the consequences could have been devastating.

The attack has also taken an ambulance off the road, placing further pressure on our emergency resources.

The alleged offender has since been arrested by NT Police.

Our paramedics face enough challenges without having to fear for their own safety.

Violence against emergency workers is never acceptable. Not on Halloween. Not on any day.

Great care starts with great training!

Some of our volunteers recently put their skills to the test at a practical assessment day, tackling realistic emergency scenarios as they work towards their Certificate III in Basic Health Care.

This qualification is an important step towards becoming an Advanced Responder, and we're proud to see our volunteers continuing to challenge themselves and build their skills!
