It is with deep sadness St Vincent de Paul Society NT shares the news of the passing of Jocelyn Cull, who died in her sleep on Monday night.
Jocelyn was our most recent past President of the St Vincent de Paul Society in the Northern Territory. She also served as an NT Council Vice President and as President of St Mary’s Conference.
Jocelyn’s Vincentian service was marked by passion, courage, positivity, and a deep commitment to advocacy for people experiencing disadvantage, particularly Aboriginal people and communities across the Northern Territory.
Jocelyn’s contributions during her presidency were significant and enduring. She was the author of the Transition to Independence Strategy, a vision for housing and homelessness responses in the Territory that restored dignity, choice and self‑determination for people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. The strategy laid the foundation for our work in housing, and under Jocelyn’s leadership she established our Housing Board and developed plans for both an Interim Accommodation Facility and an affordable and social housing development on Westralia Street.
Jocelyn also facilitated the re‑establishment of the Conference in Alice Springs and encouraged Conferences to reach beyond Darwin, engaging with regional and remote communities and collaborating with other organisations that shared our values. She was a strong and committed advocate for the Society and for our Companions in the Northern Territory during her service on the National Council.
Jocelyn leaves behind her husband and great support, Graeme, and their four children. I ask that you please keep Graeme, their children, and Jocelyn’s extended family in your prayers during this time.
May Jocelyn rest in peace.
