World Stray Animal Day 🐾

Stray and feral animals have a significant impact on Australia’s native wildlife and ecosystems, largely driven by human factors like unplanned breeding and irresponsible pet ownership.

By taking simple steps like desexing pets, keeping them secure, and supporting rescue organisations, we can help reduce stray populations and protect our wildlife.

Every small action makes a difference.

Today is World Pangolin Day,

Pictured above is the lovely Nasapati the Red Panda who resides at the National Zoo & Aquarium. Red Pandas act as an umbrella species for over 20 mammal species throughout Nepal. One of the key species they helped protect are the critically endangered Chinese Pangolin. Our work with the focuses on the Panchthar-Ilam-Taplejung (PIT) region of eastern Nepal.

Some quick facts 🔎 (courtesy of )

- There are 4 species of Asian Pangolin, Chinese, Sunda, Indian and Philippine. All are now considered critically endangered.
- Pangolins are a critical part of their ecosystem regulating insects in their habitat
- As of recent 2025 reporting it is believed that since 2014 a total volume of 418,647kg of pangolin parts in addition to 47,213 whole pangolins have been seized in SEA.
- They are the fastest increasing trafficked mammal due to myths about their scales & meat.

You can help us make an impact by dropping a gold coin into our donation boxes or donating your 10c bottles around the or via Recollect.

All the money raised from our Recollect program across February will be donated to the Pandas & Pangolins program at Panda Network.

The iconic Gang-Gang Cockatoo primarily lives throughout south-eastern Australia in our eucalypt woodland forests.🌳🪾

They have a unique call that sounds quite like a creaky door hinge!

Gang-Gang Cockatoos are an endangered species and it is vital that we try to protect and restore their habitat.

Australian Wildlife Conservancy works in partnership with Wandiyali Wildlife Sanctuary to develop conservation strategies for threatened species.

🐅Tigers are the largest of all Asian big cats and the ultimate apex predator🐅

They prevent over-grazing by preying on herbivores, which makes them vital for maintaining balance within the ecosystem.🍃

Tigers indirectly provide sustenance for scavenger species by hunting large prey and leaving behind carrion. They also help in nutrient recycling and disease control.🦠

Healthy, balanced ecosystems supply nature and people with fresh water and food.💦

Tigers face many threats including poaching, the illegal wildlife trade, land clearing, climate change and human-tiger conflict.🪾
Losing tigers in the wild will influence the survival and behavior of a wide range of other species in the ecosystem. 🌏

To help save tigers from extinction we must:
• Encourage human-tiger coexistence
• End exploitation and illegal poaching
• Create tiger corridors
• Support community-based conservation

More information about tigers and conservation efforts can be found on the WWF or International Tiger Project websites.🔎
