Working with patients who have hepatitis B? Don’t forget about hepatitis D.

Hepatitis D is the most severe form of viral hepatitis and is frequently under‑diagnosed. Many people are unaware of their risk, and testing is often overlooked.

Hepatitis Australia has resources to support awareness and education, including a video and poster designed for both clinicians and patients.

Hepatitis D is an often missed risk for people with hepatitis B.

The Hepatitis D virus can only survive in people living with hepatitis B, but it significantly increases the risk of cirrhosis, liver failure and liver cancer.

For healthcare professionals, early awareness and testing is important. If your patients have hepatitis B, hepatitis D should be on your radar.

To support clinical conversations, Hepatitis Australia has developed️ a short explainer video in English, Punjabi, Vietnamese and Sudanese Arabic, and a visual poster resource.

Hepatitis B is the most common blood-borne virus in the world. It affects the liver.

Many people with hepatitis B don’t feel sick, but if it is not managed, it can cause liver damage and/or liver cancer.

A simple blood test helps prevent liver disease or liver cancer.

Hepatitis B tests are not part of normal blood tests. You have to ask your doctor for a hepatitis B blood test. Your results are private.

For free and private support call HepLink at 1800 437 222.

Accessing hepatitis C testing and treatment just got easier.

HepLink’s new hepatitis C telehealth service provides hepatitis C testing and treatment support anywhere in Australia, making it easier for people in rural and remote areas to access the support they need. Consultations are free; all you need is a Medicare card.

“People living with hep C are at an increased risk of liver cancer and liver failure, so it’s really important to get tested if you’ve got any of the risk factors” - Lucy Clynes

The service has also been featured across multiple radio stations, helping raise awareness.
