These participatory workshops provide an opportunity to deepen your understanding of the sector, explore the historical and political context of international development and humanitarian action in Australia, and learn more about sector good practice and ACFID’s Code of Conduct. The workshops will also feature guest speakers from across ACFID’s membership and create space for networking and further learning.

The workshops are open to all, including those who've recently joined or interested in the development and humanitarian sector. Board members and directors of NGOs and charities working overseas are particularly encouraged to attend.

ACFID is pleased that the Government maintained the aid program amid global cuts, but we have serious concerns there are no projected increases in real terms over the forward estimates and that overall investment remains at historic lows as a share of the federal budget.

ACFID's full analysis outlines what the Budget means across development sectors, how funding has shifted between regions, and broader trends in the overall ODA budget can be read here.

The 2026-2027 Federal Budget holds the line on aid, but stronger investment is needed in an increasingly unstable world
ACFID welcomes the Government’s commitment to protect the aid program in the face of global cuts, including the increased investment in the Indo-Pacific and support for Australian NGOs working globally. However, at a time when the world is facing rising global conflict, the impacts of climate change, and impending food insecurity from the fuel crisis, Australia has hit an all-time low in generosity, with aid making up just 0.63% percent of the Budget overall.

Three quarters of Australians think Australia should maintain or increase the aid budget. As the conflict in the Middle East drives insecurity, pushes up the cost of fuel and food and makes the future uncertain, we know the value of aid. At less than 1% of the federal budget saves lives, strengthens communities, prevents crises, and helps make a safer world for all.

ACFID will be hosting a side event at Women Deliver 2026 in Naarm (Melbourne), together with our co-hosts RDI Network and First Australians Capital.

Indigenous women across the Oceanic Pacific are leaders in economic change. They are building businesses, creating economic models that honour cultural protocols, and defining what prosperity looks like for their communities and future generations.

The question is not whether Indigenous women can lead economically. They already do. The question is whether international development governance systems and policies are genuinely ready to support that leadership and promote it as best practice across the region.

This session will bring together entrepreneurs, young leaders, development practitioners, and researchers to explore what economic empowerment looks like when Indigenous women define it on their own terms.

We will hear what enables and what hinders Indigenous women's economic participation across generations, and identify concrete pathways toward more equitable, culturally grounded support for Indigenous women's economic self-determination.

WD2026 is the first Women Deliver Conference regionally hosted by the Oceanic Pacific and we are very proud to be part of it. We would love to see you there.

ACFID welcomes the tabling of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade report, Democracy and human rights in Myanmar.

The report highlights the increasingly severe geopolitical and humanitarian crisis in Myanmar and, importantly, includes a number of strong recommendations that reflect longstanding priorities of Australia’s humanitarian and development sector. The report also made specific note of key aspects from the ACFID Myanmar Community of Practice submission, recognising that while Australia cannot address the growing humanitarian funding gap alone, it has a clear opportunity and responsibility as a regional leader to do more through an increase to ODA funding.

ACFID encourages the Australian Government to support the recommendations as a matter of urgency and looks forward to the Government’s response.

As Australia prepares to host Women Deliver 2026 in less than a month, ACFID is excited for the opportunities this will bring to focus on gender equality at a time when it is desperately needed.

As part of this opportunity, ACFID is proud to join international development, humanitarian and philanthropic partners in a cross-sector Call to Action calling for an increased investment in:

- Intersectional local leadership – resourcing the diverse local organisations and movements that advance women’s and girls’ rights, safety, health, economic security and leadership.
- Gender transformative climate resilience – backing women and girls on the frontlines, to lead fair, effective responses to the climate crisis in their communities.
- Adolescent girls’ futures – investing in programs that centre girls’ voice, safety, education, health and leadership.

Racial Justice Training

Our first Racial Justice Training for 2026 was a full house — bringing ACFID members together to explore power, sit with discomfort, and reflect on practical changes to strengthen racial justice in our work.
