ZamZam stands against the violent oppression of the Iranian regime.

Iranian women, including in our committee, have tirelessly stood with women from Afghanistan in a joint fight against gender apartheid.

We recognise the struggle and the courage of the Iranian people ,and stand against all human rights abuses.

The regime has blocked the internet, with many unable to contact families amid reports of severely increased violence.

People from Afghanistan living inside Iran, having fled the Taliban, continue to also suffer under the regime, they cannot:
- own a home
- have a bank account
- own a mobile phone
- obtain a birth certificate for children born in Iran to parents from Afghanistan
- receive an organ donation from an Iranian donor.
They are at times being forcibly removed and sent back to Afghanistan.

No woman is free until all women are free, so our fight is intertwined. The plight of women from Iran is deeply tied to Afghanistan, united by language and ancient Persian cultural traditions, and United in a fight against violent regimes.

This is both outrageous and heartbreaking

The Taliban have now ordered Afghan universities to remove all books written by women from their curricula. Out of 679 textbooks under review, 140 written by female authors are banned, along with 18 entire courses — many of them focused on women’s issues, gender, law, human rights, and even basic sciences. Hundreds more courses are still “under investigation.”

This is not just about banning books. It’s about erasing women’s voices, restricting knowledge, and controlling what an entire generation is allowed to think. By removing texts authored by women, and courses that centre women’s experiences, the Taliban are rewriting the intellectual landscape of Afghanistan — with women’s perspectives forcibly torn out.

Education is a lifeline. Silencing women in classrooms and libraries is another form of violence, aimed at making women invisible.

Feminism is global. Our solidarity must be too.

What we can do:
Amplify Afghan women’s voices: Share and listen to Afghan activists, writers, and educators who are resisting erasure. Including

Support women-led organisations such as RAWA (Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan), Women for Afghan Women, and Afghan Women’s Educational Center and including

Stay informed: Keep attention on Afghanistan — silence allows oppression to grow unnoticed, follow

Pressure governments & institutions: Demand that women’s rights remain central in international negotiations and aid policies. Keep writing to your MPs!

Solidarity means refusing to look away.
