πŸ’œ Wrapping Up Our Overdose Awareness Health Promotion Month

As the month comes to an end, we want to take a moment to reflect on the important conversations, connections and moments we’ve shared throughout our Overdose Awareness health promotion activities.

Throughout the month, we created a range of opportunities for our community to come together, remember those we have lost, share stories and continue to raise awareness about overdose and the importance of harm reduction and keeping each other safe.

🌳 Memorial Tree – a place to remember and honour those we have lost.
πŸ“– Memorial Book – giving our community a space to write, reflect and share memories.
🧠 Overdose Awareness Quiz – creating conversations and sharing important harm reduction information.
πŸ” Community BBQ – bringing everyone together, connecting and supporting one another.
πŸ’¬ Words and quotes for our community – messages of hope, strength, remembrance and encouragement that people could take with them.

We also had an amazing turnout at our International Overdose Awareness Day BBQ at Veterans Park, with close to 80 people attending and around 20 naloxone interventions provided.

Most importantly, this month has been about people β€” remembering, connecting, supporting and making sure our community has the knowledge and tools to respond when it matters.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated, shared their stories, supported our activities and helped make the month so meaningful. And thank you to ATODA for your continued support. πŸ’œ

A big thank you to Dr Marisa Paterson, ACT Minister for Health and Mental Health, for taking the time to visit CAHMA. πŸ’œ

It was great to have you come and meet with our team, hear about the work we do and talk about the importance of harm reduction, peer-led services and supporting our community.

We really appreciate you taking the time to listen to the experiences of our staff and peers and to see the work we do on the ground.

Thanks again for visiting CAHMA and for taking the time to hear what matters to our community. πŸ’œ

Today we had close to 80 people attend our International Overdose Awareness Day BBQ at Veterans Park.

It was amazing to see such a strong community turnout, with everyone coming together to remember those we have lost, support those impacted by overdose and raise awareness about the importance of harm reduction.

We also delivered around 20 naloxone interventions, helping more people in our community understand how to recognise and respond to an opioid overdose. Naloxone saves lives, and every person who carries it helps keep our community safer.

A big thank you to for joining us and supporting such an important day, and to everyone who came along. πŸ’œ

Today we come together to remember those whose lives have been impacted by overdose and to honour those we have sadly lost. πŸ’œ

We will also be raising awareness about naloxone, a medication that can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose and save a life. Naloxone information and kits will be available on the day.

We hope to see a great turnout at our community BBQ at Veterans Park, kicking off at 11:30am. Everyone is welcome.

🧑 Hepatitis C Testing and Liver Scans at ETHOS Engage 🧑

ETHOS Engage will be offering Hepatitis C testing and liver scans across two days:

πŸ“… Tuesday 1 September
πŸ“… Wednesday 2 September

Come along for confidential, respectful and non-judgemental testing and support. Hepatitis C can often have no obvious symptoms, so getting tested is the only way to know.

A liver scan is quick and painless and can provide important information about your liver health.

Everyone deserves access to testing, treatment and good health care without stigma or judgement.

πŸ’œ OVERDOSE AWARENESS COMMUNITY BBQ πŸ’œ

CAHMA warmly invites our community to join us on Friday 28 August for our Overdose Awareness BBQ.

This is a time for us to come together to remember the people we have lost, support those who have been affected by overdose and continue raising awareness that overdose can happen to anyone.

Come along for a free BBQ, connection, conversation and practical harm reduction information. Naloxone information and support will also be available.

Everyone is welcome. There will be no judgementβ€”just community, care and remembrance. πŸ’œ
