We're a not-for-profit charity supporting farmers to regenerate soils and landscapes, build natural and social capital, and transform the food system for the benefit of all. Soils For Life is a not-for-profit charity dedicated to supporting Australian farmers in regenerating soils and landscapes to build natural and social capital and transform food systems. We sit within an ecosystem of organisat

ions and groups
who share a common overarching vision of:
• Productive and profitable food and fibre systems
• Regenerated biodiverse soils and landscapes
• Resilient and connected communities
• Healthy, nutritious, abundant food. We are champions of diverse regenerative agriculture systems, brokering knowledge between our partners and stakeholders. We build communities of practice around regenerative cultures and thinking to create and enable strong networks and partnerships. We build a strong evidence base to validate and share understandings of regenerative principles, practices and outcomes. Our holistic and transdisciplinary approach encompasses all aspects of regenerative agriculture including ecological, economic, and social transformation. We create local, on ground farmer support mechanisms including mentoring programs and networks, and we do this in partnership with a range of local and regional organisations. Soils For Life was founded in 2012 by Australia’s former Governor-General and National Soils Advocate, Major General the Honourable Michael Jeffery.

What's happening in your interrows and around your tree rows could be quietly transforming your whole orchard system.

Our final Orchard Convo features agricultural ecologist Abigail Makim, who works with growers across macadamias, avocados, lychees, custard apples and blueberries. Come ready to discuss how interrow management and diverse vegetation can restore ecosystem services, support beneficial species and build long-term resilience on-farm.

Bring your questions on what to plant, management approaches and how to make it work in your system.

Grey mould. Brown rot. Root rot. If you grow tree crops, you know the damage diseases can do, and this online ‘ask me anything’ session explores biological solutions that are available.

Our third Orchard Convo features plant pathologist Dean Metcalf, founder of BioControl Australia, who has spent over 30 years developing biological control agents. Dean will discuss resilience in orchards and implementing biological controls, focusing on Phytophthora, and will also take your questions on managing other common fungal diseases like Botrytis, Monilinia, Sclerotinia and more.

We've launched our new Practice Guide to Grazing for Soil and Landscape Regeneration! 🎉

The guide distils common principles and practices used by graziers seeking to build soil health and restore landscape function, and shares five examples of how these are being applied by graziers around the country.

It covers:
🌿 Benefits of regenerative grazing
🌿 Planning animal moves
🌿 Monitoring and adapting to changing conditions
🌿 Redesigning infrastructure
🌿 Rethinking livestock management
🌿 Increasing diversity and adjusting enterprise design

Dairy Farmers in SW WA this one is for you!

🐄Dirt to Dairy - a new peer group opportunity!

There’s a quiet truth at the heart of every productive dairy system; good farming starts beneath your boots. 👢

In June, we're launching a Dairy Resilience Peer Group Program for South West dairy farmers who are ready to build stronger, more resilient farms from the ground up.

We’ll be bringing together two small groups of eight to ten farmers for a series of five in-person sessions, kicking off in June 2026 (with a second intake in March 2027).

Beneficial insects are some of the hardest working members of your orchard, but do you know their life cycles and habitat needs well enough to keep them on the job?

Our second Orchard Convo features entomologist Paul Horne, founder of IPM Technologies and one of Australia's most experienced voices in integrated pest management (IPM), and Rebecca Addison, IPM consultant with a range of experience across crops and a soils-first approach to agronomy.

Paul and Rebecca will dig into the life cycles and management of beneficial insects in orchards, so bring your questions.

Our Practice Guide to Grazing for Soil and Landscape Regeneration is here!

We launched the guide at Nick and Deanna Austin's farm Mundarlo, and their knowledge and experience is shared in their guide, along with four other diverse grazing operations around the country.

Huge thank you to Nick for hosting the day and sharing so generously, to Brian Wehlburg for providing such a clear introduction to key principles for regenerative grazing, including grazing planning and monitoring and managing for plant recovery.

Thanks also to our advisory panel who helped shape this guide, including Brian as well as Judi Earl (Agricultural Information and Monitoring Services), Helen Lewis (Australian Holistic Management Cooperative), David McLean (RCS), and Grahame Rees (KLR Marketing).

And deep appreciation to Twynam Investments who supported the production of the guide, and the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal that supported the launch event.
