We’ve got some big Messi fans here who are pretty happy today! Nothing quite compares to the joy the World Cup brings to everyone in Guatemala, and our kids are rallying behind the 🐐 for his last ⚽️🎩🥅🏟️🇦🇷

’Twas the night before the World Cup, and all through the house,
No one could sit still, not even a mouse. 🐭

The jerseys were laid by each bedside with care,
In hopes that kickoff soon would be there. 👕

The kids buzzed with dreams of goals yet to come,
Of passes, of headers, of victories won. 🏆

By day they’ll play fútbol from sunrise to night,
Then crowd ‘round the TV for each match’s fight. 📺

For six weeks of joy, of cheering so loud,
Of favorite teams making each fan so proud. 🥅

From the field to the screen, their love will erupt…
Oh, life here is sweeter when it’s the World Cup. ⚽

If there’s one food that represents Guatemala, it’s tortillas 🌽

At Casa Bernabé, fresh corn tortillas are part of daily life. Our cooks take turns tortillando every day so the kids and staff always have warm tortillas with their meals.

We recently shared the recipe and process our cooks use, from mixing the masa to shaping each tortilla by hand. It’s a simple tradition, but an important part of Guatemalan culture and everyday life at CB. You can follow our recipe here: https://bit.ly/4wx3yx4

Now we’re curious…have you ever made homemade tortillas before? 🇬🇹

A little paint and a lot of hard work went a long way on our playground!

Thanks to a recent team from Watson Chapel, some much-needed repairs were made to our playground equipment, along with a fresh coat of paint. The result: a safer, brighter place for our kids to play.

We’re so thankful for teams who jump in and serve in practical ways that make everyday life better for the children at Casa Bernabé. 💛

A new year in our bakery vocational class means starting with the basics 🍞

Before learning recipes and techniques, our students are focusing on sanitary and hygiene practices, an essential part of working in any kitchen or bakery environment.

To start the week, they got to put those lessons into practice by deep cleaning the entire bakery together. 🧼

These vocational classes are about more than baking skills. They’re preparing our kids with real-world habits and responsibility for future opportunities. 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

Meet the communications team behind the weekly stories, newsletters, and social media updates from Friends of Casa Bernabé! 📸📰💻

Evelyn Ruano captures life on campus through photos and storytelling. Julia Amstutz helps guide the vision and planning behind what we share. Sara Salguero keeps us connected to all things Casa Bernabé with her deep knowledge and insight. Marleigh Beaker gathers the stories each week through interviews, photos, and conversations across campus. Then Emily Tuttle brings it all together by writing the newsletters and creating the social media content.

Together, we’re honored to help share the stories God is writing in the lives of the children and staff at Casa Bernabé. If there's ever a topic you're interested in hearing about, we would love to hear from you. Thank you for following along, reading, praying, and being part of this community each week! ❤️

Who doesn’t love pen pals? 💌

Recently in English class, two 4th grade teachers from Michigan brought letters from their students for our kids at Casa Bernabé. The letters were all in English, so we took time to read them together and talk through what they said.

Then our students wrote letters back to send to their new friends in Michigan ✍️

It was uch a fun way to practice English and connect with new friends!

Recently we hosted an ophthalmology clinic for our students at our clinic. 👓

Thanks to a team of visiting volunteers, the kids were able to receive eye exams to help identify vision problems that could affect learning in the classroom. They also got to spend time with the group who made the day extra fun.🎈
