May 28th is World Menstrual Health Day and D4G is excited to announce the launch of our ‘Rise Up, Spring Forward’ fund drive enabling girls and women to spring forward past gender-based barriers. A significant barrier to girls in developing countries worldwide is a lack of access to menstrual supplies and education. Menstruation is often shrouded in shame and silence, excluding girls from school, community activities, and even their own families. Period stigmatization and shame can cause girls to fall behind in school, lead to depression, expose girls to sexual exploitation, or even su***de.
Our ‘Rise Up, Spring Forward’ campaign aims to addresses menstrual barriers in three ways: giving access to high-quality, washable menstrual pads; establishing international sewing enterprises; and providing menstrual health education. Our goal is to raise funds to support the establishment of new sewing enterprises, along with a series of menstrual health workshops, and providing kits containing essential washable sanitary pads, underwear, and soap to at least 150 girls in Kisii, Kenya.
