🎃 What a fun Halloween week! 👻

We wrapped up the week with a different theme each day, ending with our Halloween costume party! From themed outfits to creative costumes, there was plenty of fun, laughter, and festive spirit along the way.

We love seeing the people we support and our amazing staff get into the celebration and make these moments so special. ❤️

💜 Thankful Thursday: The Power of Community, the Heart of Carroll County! 💜

As October comes to a close, we're reflecting on a month filled with meaningful conversations, new connections, shared ideas, and incredible possibilities.

And one thing has never been clearer: Something extraordinary happens when Carroll County comes together. ✨

From strengthening connections with CARE Healing Center - formerly RCIS of Carroll County and celebrating our new educational partnership with McDaniel College, to the inspiration and leadership shared at the Carroll County Women's Conference, to our growing collaboration with Exploration Commons at 50 East for our own Innovation Center, powered by Comcast—October has reminded us just how much is possible when organizations look beyond their individual missions and recognize what we can accomplish together.

Different organizations. Different expertise. Different perspectives. But a shared belief that our community is stronger when everyone has the opportunity to belong, contribute, and thrive.

At The Arc Carroll County, we are incredibly grateful to be surrounded by partners who lead with purpose, embrace collaboration, and understand that meaningful community impact isn't created in isolation.

It's created through relationships. Through conversations that spark ideas. Through people who see possibilities instead of barriers. And through a willingness to turn shared vision into meaningful action.

💼💙 Workday Wednesday: Celebrating 40 Years of Dedication — Meet Shelly! 💙💼

40 years. Countless relationships. A lifetime of making a difference! 🎉👏

This Workday Wednesday, we're celebrating an incredible milestone for Shelly Garber, Employment Coordinator at The Arc Carroll County, who recently marked 40 years of service! 🌟

Throughout her remarkable career, Shelly has worn many hats, from Production Supervisor and Expeditor to Job Coach, Employment Specialist, and now Employment Coordinator. Through every role, one thing has remained constant: her dedication to helping individuals discover their strengths, build independence, and find meaningful employment.

When asked about her proudest moments, Shelly shared that nothing compares to supporting someone on their very first day of work and watching them grow into a confident, independent employee who builds friendships and thrives in their workplace. 💙

But perhaps the most touching tribute to Shelly's impact came from the individuals she supports! 🥹

John, Kevin, John, and James, along with Employment staff Brenda and Melissa, planned a surprise luncheon to celebrate her 40th anniversary. They organized everything during their Friday CDS time, making the celebration especially meaningful. What a beautiful reflection of the relationships Shelly has built over four decades! 🎂🎉

Shelly's advice to the individuals she supports is simple but powerful:

"Do what makes you happy. When you find something that brings you happiness and fulfillment, it can make all the difference in your life." 💙

🎃👻 Mission Monday: A Spooktacular Person-Centered Adventure! 💜

Halloween is only days away and Jeannie enjoyed a spooky outing that was right up her alley! 🧟‍♂️✨

As a longtime fan of scary Halloween movies, Jeannie was thrilled to visit Frank(enstein) at the Westminster Mall! 🎬🎃 Judging by that big smile, this was one Halloween encounter worth remembering!

💜 At The Arc Carroll County, person-centered support means recognizing what makes each person unique—their interests, preferences, and passions—and creating opportunities to experience the things they love.

Jeannie's Halloween adventure is a fun reminder that meaningful community experiences don't have to be elaborate. Sometimes, it's simply about knowing what someone enjoys and helping make it happen! 🌟

We’re excited to welcome The Arc Carroll County Maryland as a new partner in CARE’s Allied Prevention Partner (APP) Program!

Through the APP Program, CARE provides training and resources to help community organizations foster environments that promote sexual violence prevention, safety, and awareness.

We’re grateful to have the Arc make this commitment to prevention!

Felicia recently enjoyed a beautiful day at Fort Howard Park with Tami, taking in the waterfront views, fresh air, and sunshine. 🌊☀️ It was a wonderful opportunity to get outdoors, enjoy the scenery, and spend time doing something special!

This Thankful Thursday, we're celebrating Tami and the many dedicated staff members who help make experiences like these possible. 💙

Person-centered support is about more than meeting everyday needs. It's about recognizing individual interests, honoring choices, and creating opportunities for connection, exploration, independence, and joy.

💼✨ Workday Wednesday: Community Partner Spotlight — Cultivated!✨💼

This week, we're celebrating Cultivated, a wonderful community partner helping individuals explore their interests, discover their strengths, and build valuable workplace skills! 💙

At The Arc Carroll County, our Discovery process is part of Job Exploration and includes three important milestones:

🔹 Milestone 1: Personal Inventory — Getting to know the whole person through conversations with individuals and their families.

🔹 Milestone 2: Job Trials & Informational Interviews — Exploring career interests and gaining hands-on experience with community businesses.

🔹 Milestone 3: Future Planning — Bringing everything together to identify meaningful employment opportunities and next steps.

Over the past several years, Cultivated has been an incredible partner during Milestone 2, welcoming individuals for hands-on job trials in a real retail environment! 🛍️

From dressing mannequins and unpacking merchandise to pricing, organizing displays, straightening hangers, and even operating the register, participants have gained valuable experience while exploring the many responsibilities involved in retail.

These opportunities are about more than learning job tasks. They're about discovering abilities, building confidence, identifying interests, and empowering individuals to make informed choices about their futures. 🌟

A heartfelt thank-you to for opening your doors, sharing your expertise, and helping create pathways to meaningful employment. Community partnerships like yours make Discovery possible! 💙👏

Meet Adam, an entrepreneur who is making things happen, one vending machine at a time! 💼👏

Adam owns vending machines in the community and takes an active role in running his business! With support from Steven, Adam stocks his machines, tracks inventory, and manages the profits and expenses that come with being a business owner. 📦💰

💜 At The Arc Carroll County, person-centered support is about empowering people to pursue their goals, make their own decisions, and build meaningful lives on their own terms.

Steven's role is to support Adam's vision, providing assistance where needed while ensuring Adam remains at the center of every decision. It's a great example of how the right support can help turn personal ambitions into real opportunities for independence and success! ✨

🍂 Friday Wrap-Up! 🎃

What a fun-filled week! From our outing to Spring Meadows, exploring art exhibits, visiting the Fire Department, Western MD Railway Museum, to decorating pumpkins, making our very own Dream Catchers and enjoying so many other wonderful activities, we’ve made lots of great memories! 🧡🍁
