Carroll Post 31 Crab Feast

06/17/2026

A beloved member of Post #31 American Legion and Westminster VFW passed away this morning. Ed Smith was a humble Vietnam War Veteran. I was hoping beyond hope he would be the one to make one more recovery. Sad. For those who didn't know Ed, he quietly came to aid of so many. He was a hard shell crab to those who did not understand him, but had the heart of a guardian angel to so many.

The American Legion Post 31 Color Guard was honored to join in celebrating a very special milestone—the 100th birthday of Navy veteran and American Legion Life Member Bob Schreuer—at Atlee Hill in Westminster.
Bob's 100 years reflect a lifetime of service, dedication, and commitment to both his country and his community. As a longtime member of Post 31, he has been a valued part of our Legion family and an example of the principles and patriotism we hold dear.
Representing Post 31 at the celebration were Kyle Coale, Gordon Faircloth, and Donny Weigan. On behalf of the post, the Color Guard presented Bob with a commemorative gift and conveyed the congratulations and best wishes of the entire membership.
Reaching the century mark is a rare and remarkable achievement. It was a privilege to recognize Bob's military service, his unwavering support of the American Legion, and the many contributions he has made throughout his life. The Honor Guard proudly saluted Bob in recognition of his service to our nation and his many years of dedication to Post 31.
Post 31 is proud to honor one of our own and celebrate this extraordinary occasion. We thank Bob for his service, friendship, and commitment to the Legion, and we wish him a very happy 100th birthday and many more years of health and happiness.

Carroll Post 31 Color Guard Honors Fallen Heroes During Westminster Memorial Day Observances

On Memorial Day, May 25, 2026, members of the American Legion Carroll Post 31 Color Guard proudly represented the Post during Westminster’s annual Memorial Day Remembrance Parade and Observance Ceremony.

As the host organization for Westminster’s Memorial Day parade and ceremony for more than 80 years, Carroll Post 31 once again continued one of the nation’s longest consecutively running Memorial Day traditions.

The Color Guard presented the colors during the parade through downtown Westminster before proceeding to Historic Westminster Cemetery, where they rendered honors during the solemn observance ceremony honoring America’s fallen servicemen and women.

Participating members of the Color Guard included Kyle Coale, Donnie Wiegan, Rick Richards, Gordon Faircloth, Dave Cross, Jason Bulger, and Mike Jarvis.

The ceremony at Historic Westminster Cemetery remains especially meaningful to the Westminster community. The tradition dates back more than 150 years, when local residents and schoolchildren first decorated the graves of Civil War soldiers — a practice that continues today as part of Westminster’s annual Memorial Day observance.

Carroll Post 31 extends its appreciation to all members, volunteers, parade participants, and community supporters who helped ensure this year’s observance continued with the dignity and respect our nation’s fallen heroes deserve.
