What began as isolated local opposition to data centers has grown into a protest movement with national political relevance ahead of the US midterm elections.

ACLED records more than 340 anti-data center protests across 42 states since 2025, with over 80% taking place in 2026. Unlike many major US protest movements that peak and then subside, opposition to data centers is still gathering steam — driven by concerns over power bills, neighborhood noise, water quality, and the environment, with the largest movements concentrated in and the Midwest.

Eritrean forces crossed the border into today at Zelambesa and moved toward the Adigrat-Idaga Hamus route, where ENDF drones targeted them at Guada as they traveled by vehicle toward Idaga Hamus.

is suspected of backing the newly formed Alliance for Survival to weaken the Ethiopian government for two possible reasons. First, Eritrea was dissatisfied with the Pretoria agreement, which ended the 2020–22 war between the TPLF and the Ethiopian government. Second, Eritrea opposes Ethiopia’s push for Red Sea access through the port of Assab and seeks to create a buffer between the two countries by making Tigray hostile to Ethiopia.

Three years after , the ceasefires in Gaza and Lebanon have reduced violence — but the conflicts remain unresolved.

In Gaza, violence has dropped 61% since the October 2025 ceasefire, while Israel continues to carry out attacks and control large parts of the Strip.

In Lebanon, violence peaked in March 2026, and Israeli air and drone strikes have increased again since the June ceasefire.

What happens now that the government has regained control of Mekele?

Over the weekend, government and allied forces began taking control of Tigray’s capital after retaking Mekele’s main airport. The TPLF said it had temporarily left the city and would operate from elsewhere.

Unlike in 2020, when the government retook and formed a transitional administration with the ENDF as the primary security force, this time the federal government is likely to leave the regional administration to the Council for Peace and Change and security to the Tigray Peace Force, which includes former TDF members now allied with government forces.

Israel has increased its airstrikes ahead of October’s election, with air and drone attacks against Hamas and its members in Gaza rising again in September to around the same level as their July peak.

Hamas has largely avoided responding to continued Israeli strikes, despite some scattered incidents — a sign of how much the war has weakened the group. Israel’s October election could bring a new government and change the timing or intensity of Israeli operations, but it is unlikely to alter the country’s broader security and military objectives.
