You didn’t choose to be the translator or interpreter. You became the bridge.

You know how systems work because you’ve been reading between the lines for years. Now you use that skill on purpose. At the tenant meeting. At the school board. At the counter when someone’s landlord “forgot” to send the notice in Spanish.

You’re not just bilingual. You’re the reason someone else in this community gets a straight answer today.

106 years since the 19th Amendment. Latinas are still paid 54 cents on the dollar. 23 months of work to earn what a white man earns in 12. $1.2 million lost over a career.

No matter the genre, it’s never really about the song. It’s about who grabs your hand to dance, who’s singing off-key in the kitchen, who won’t let the aux go until 2am.

Reggaetón for the primos, cumbia for the tías, bachata for the tíos, salsa for the abuelos who taught the family to move and norteño for when nobody wants to sit back down.

$4.4 trillion. That’s the size of the U.S. Latino economy in 2024, big enough to be the world’s 4th largest, if it were its own country, just passing Japan.

The consumer market alone is worth $2.8 trillion, the third largest consumer market on the planet. Latinos drove 28.2% of all U.S. economic growth last year, despite being about one-fifth of the population. And 92.6% of all new households formed in the U.S. were Latino.

Nobody handed us this. We built it.

Fear has a cost. Proximity has a price.

Businesses within a quarter mile of a June 2025 ICE raid lost $2.11 million in the first two weeks. Businesses just one block further out still took a hit, but nearly half as much: $1.05 million.

Same raid. Same day. The only difference was distance, and it nearly doubled the damage.

That was over a year ago. Many of these businesses still haven’t recovered. The closer you were, the longer the recovery, and for some, there hasn’t been one at all.

This is what enforcement actually costs a corridor, then and now. It’s not one storefront. It’s every business within reach, and the ones closest are still paying for it today.
