đź“Š The hardest part of education innovation is ensuring proven solutions reach everyone who needs them.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, EDUSER — a new digital enrollment system built with support from Corus company CGA Technologies — is helping transform how learner data is collected and used. Built on existing government systems and processes, EDUSER enables education authorities to access timely, reliable data for planning, resource allocation, and student support.

The results are already promising. During a pilot in Kasai Province, government teams registered 8,634 learners across 20 schools, making critical education data available in time for national examination planning and helping identify vulnerable groups who may otherwise be overlooked.

With the pilot demonstrating clear value, the next opportunity is ensuring this locally owned solution can continue to grow. The funding that supported EDUSER has ended, creating an opportunity for partners to invest in a government-owned solution with the potential to strengthen education planning nationwide.

The foundations are already in place — a locally owned system, trained users and demonstrated results. The question now is whether continued investment will allow a proven solution to move from pilot to national scale.

🍫 Tanzania’s cocoa industry is getting ready for new EU market requirements.

Early this month, Tanzania's Cereals and Other Produce Regulatory Authority (COPRA) and Corus International convened 58 cocoa exporters, buyers, processors, government agencies, ministries, and civil society organizations to discuss Tanzania’s progress toward compliance with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) ahead of the December 2026 deadline.

đź“Ť To date, COPRA and Corus together have:
âś… Developed a national Cocoa Database to support traceability and EUDR compliance
âś… Registered 26,093 cocoa farmers (over 90% of farmers nationwide)
âś… Geolocated 31,303 cocoa farms using polygon mapping
âś… Mapped and integrated 60 cocoa cooperatives (AMCOS) into the national traceability system

đź’» During the forum, COPRA gave exporters a live demonstration of the Cocoa National Database, which exporters expressed satisfaction with as a practical tool to support EUDR due diligence, improve access to quality farmer and farm data, and strengthen market access through the COPRA portal.

🤝🏾 Corus International remains committed to supporting Tanzania’s cocoa sector through:
▪️ Technical assistance to COPRA
▪️ New fermentation and drying facilities
▪️ Farmer training on post-harvest handling and cocoa quality

đź’ˇ Stakeholders also agreed to contribute TZS 5 per kilogram of cocoa to help sustain the system and ensure that farmer and farm data remains accurate and up to date.

Together, COPRA, Corus, and cocoa sector stakeholders are building a more transparent, traceable, and competitive future for Tanzanian cocoa.

Cash cards were a vital part of Corus’ response to the flooding in Texas last July, and they are a key part of our response to the current floods as well. Fred McCray, Jr., our senior director of humanitarian assistance, explains:

"Cash cards are a huge help for families in the aftermath of a disaster. Needs can vary from family to family, so this approach gives people the flexibility to buy the things they really need — whether that is food, medicine, diapers or transportation to a friend's house. I'm so thankful we can fill these gaps for people when they really need a hand."

Corus International is proud to share that our organization, Lutheran World Relief, signed an MOU with Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of National Education, Literacy and Technical Education (MENAET) to support the country’s education sector yesterday.

Our COO, Mahmoud Bah, joined this milestone moment as we formalized a partnership focused on strengthening school feeding, improving conditions for teachers, expanding workforce development, and supporting students in cocoa-producing communities.

This builds on Corus’ education work across Africa, including in Sierra Leone, where our Girls in School initiative leverages government-owned data systems, monthly cash assistance and wraparound support to help vulnerable girls return to school—and stay there.

Together, we’re building practical, locally grounded solutions that help children learn, teachers thrive and communities grow stronger.

When there isn't a vaccine, stopping Ebola depends on something else.

The boxes in this photo contain infection prevention and control (IPC) supplies being delivered to frontline health facilities in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. They are one part of a much larger effort to help health workers safely care for patients and reduce the risk of Ebola spreading within healthcare settings.

Over the past month, IMA World Health has been working alongside the Ministry of Health to help contain the outbreak by:

âś… Assessing 125 high-risk health facilities to identify infection prevention improvements
âś… Delivering essential IPC supplies to frontline health facilities
âś… Training more than 630 frontline health workers and community health workers
✅ Working with trusted local leaders — and even TikTok creators reaching more than 4 million people — to share accurate health information

Containing an outbreak without a vaccine takes strong health systems, trusted community partnerships, and rapid action.
