Thousands of HOPE Roars books are now in the hands of children across Smith County!

A few weeks ago at the Love Thy City event, we had the incredible opportunity to help put THOUSANDS of copies of HOPE Roars into the hands of local children.
This is what prevention in action looks like.

None of this would be possible without the generosity of our incredible donors and community partners who believe that every child deserves the tools to find their voice, recognize unsafe situations, and know they can ask for help.

Thank you for helping us get HOPE where it belongs: into the hands of kids. 🦁

Aunt Marge Says: “Warning signs are always obvious.”

Truth: Warning signs aren’t always easy to spot. Changes in behavior, increased secrecy, withdrawal from family and friends, or suddenly having expensive items can be subtle and easy to overlook.

That’s why awareness matters. Knowing what to look for can help parents, caregivers, educators, and other trusted adults recognize when something may be wrong and respond early.

Don’t be a Marge... sometimes the signs are subtle, but paying attention can make a difference.

Every child deserves to feel safe, heard, and empowered.

At For the Silent, we believe prevention starts before a child ever becomes a target.

We equip children and the adults who care for them with the knowledge, language, and confidence to recognize risk, trust their instincts, and use their voices.

Through awareness, education, training, and community partnerships, we’re working to create a community where prevention happens before crisis.

Because we don’t want to wait for the rescue.

We want to get there first.

Aunt Marge Says: "My child would never talk to a stranger online."

Truth: Online predators rarely start with obvious or alarming behavior. Many spend weeks or even months building trust, creating a friendship, and gradually asking for personal information, photos, or secrecy.

Grooming is a process, not a single conversation. That's why ongoing conversations about online safety and open communication at home are so important.

Don't be a Marge... teach kids that not everyone online is who they say they are.

Meet Miah Salcido, a homeschooled young entrepreneur and the owner of Fresh from the Oven, where she makes sourdough bread and seasoned sourdough crackers from scratch.

When Miah’s mom, Rachel, challenged her children to each choose a local nonprofit to support, Miah chose For the Silent. Her family has followed our work for many years, and Miah decided she wanted to help protect and empower vulnerable youth in her own community.

She generously donated 10% of her sales, along with all of the tips she received, to For the Silent.

Today, Miah came by to deliver her gift, and we were so touched by her sweet heart and compassionate spirit. Miah reminds us that you are never too young to make a difference and that when we use what is already in our hands, whether it’s a business, a talent, or even a loaf of bread, we can bring hope to others.

Thank you, Miah, for choosing to stand with the youth we serve. Your generosity means more than you know.

HOPE is headed into the community!

We’re so excited to have the opportunity to contribute to Love Thy City's event tomorrow!

Thousands of bags will be filled with HOPE Roars, putting a message of hope, confidence, and protective language into the hands of children across our community.

We’re grateful to partner with organizations who share our passion for reaching kids with prevention education and helping every child find their ROAR.

We can’t wait to see HOPE Roars make its way into so many hands tomorrow!

Last week, Gina had the opportunity to read HOPE Roars to four classes at Little Blessings Childcare and Preschool!

That means 52 young voices learning that their voice matters, they can ask for help, and they have the power to speak up when something doesn't feel right.

A huge thank you to Little Blessings for welcoming For the Silent and helping us bring prevention into the classroom!

One reading at a time, we're helping more kids find their ROAR.

Aunt Marge Says: "Only law enforcement can prevent trafficking."

Truth: Law enforcement plays a critical role, but prevention starts long before a crime is reported. It begins with informed parents, educators, faith communities, youth leaders, coaches, and neighbors who recognize the warning signs and know how to respond early.

Protecting children is a community effort. When we work together, we can help stop exploitation before it starts.

Don't be a Marge... prevention takes all of us.

Meet Gina Darnell,

Director of Prevention at For the Silent.

If you’ve met Gina, you probably know she has a heart for people, especially kids. Her passion for prevention comes down to something simple: every child deserves to be safe and free from exploitation.

With more than 25 years in mental health, Gina has spent her career walking alongside people during some of their hardest moments. Now, she gets to use that experience to help equip kids, families, and our community before a crisis ever happens.

Outside of For the Silent, Gina has been married for more than 31 years and is a proud mom and grandma. She has one daughter, one grandchild, and a dog named Pixie who apparently runs the show at home.

And if you really want to win Gina over, there's one thing you need to know...

Chocolate is her weakness!

We’re so thankful Gina is helping us make prevention a priority and helping more kids find their voice.
