This morning at Sunrise Rotary, we had the privilege of hearing from Captain Roberts with The Salvation Army. His story was inspiring — from graduating from a Salvation Army program himself, to attending seminary, and now serving communities across Texas through his first three assignments.

What stood out most was hearing about the real impact they are making right here in Tyler:• Helping individuals experiencing homelessness obtain IDs and medical records• Focusing on family reconciliation in a community facing a shortage of Section 8 housing• Supporting families through the Angel Tree program so parents living paycheck to paycheck can focus on food and bills without the added stress of Christmas gifts

One phrase he shared perfectly captured their mission:“Easy to Serve, Hard to Solve.”

What beautiful words that encompass the heart of the work they do every day. Thankful for organizations and leaders willing to step into hard situations with compassion, dignity, and hope. ❤️

🌅 Sunrise Rotary Club welcomed Monty Chamberlain from Austin for a great presentation on employing people with disabilities.

He shared how programs like HHSC Connects Employees and Employers help create meaningful job opportunities while also benefiting businesses through dependable employees, lower turnover, and stronger workplaces.

A great reminder that inclusive hiring changes lives and is also good business. Thank you, Monty, for an inspiring program! 💙

Sunrise Rotary Club was honored to welcome Damon Donnell, District 5830 District Governor, to speak with us about Rotary’s past impact and the exciting future ahead. 🌟

This year’s theme, Unite for Good, is a great reminder of what Rotary is all about—coming together to serve, lead, and make a difference in our communities. 🤝💙

It was also wonderful to have members from other Rotary clubs join us for the morning. Damon shared District goals that continue to move Rotary forward:

🌟 Investing in the Next Generation of Leaders 🌟

One of our favorite programs at Rotary International is RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards)!

Each year, we interview and select outstanding high school juniors to attend an unforgettable weekend leadership camp. In just a few days, these students build lifelong friendships, grow in confidence, and develop real-world leadership skills that will serve them for years to come.

For privacy purposes, I didn’t post their photos — but just know they were absolutely amazing young leaders! 💜

There is nothing more rewarding than watching students step into their potential. At Rotary, we believe the best investment we can make is in the next generation.

Sunrise Rotary Goes Behind the Scenes of the West Wing 🇺🇸

This week our Rotary president shared highlights from his recent family trip to Washington, D.C., including a fascinating tour of the West Wing. Rather than a perfectly polished monument, it’s truly an old house with ongoing maintenance needs—paint touch-ups, tight workspaces, and constant updates.

A few memorable takeaways from the tour:
• The press briefing room is much smaller than it appears on TV.
• Parts of the Rose Garden have experienced drainage and flooding challenges over time.
• Renovations and updates are always underway—including photos he saw of the new ballroom construction project.

We loved hearing his family’s perspective and the behind-the-scenes look at a place so central to our nation’s story.

Thank you for sharing your trip with us and bringing a little D.C. to Sunrise Rotary!
