Spooky season is here, so we're kicking off our new Trick or Truth Series to clear up some common energy myths! 🎃

First up: "Peak electricity hours shift from 4-9 p.m. to 6-10 p.m. during the fall"

That's a... TRICK! ❌

No matter the season, peak energy hours stay 4-9 p.m. each day. While winter rate pricing officially kicks in on October 1, the peak timing window never changes.

Keep your bills from looking scary this autumn with a few simple habits:
✓ Run dishwashers, laundry, and heavy appliances before 4 p.m. or after 9 p.m.
✓ Pre-heat or pre-cool your home during off-peak daytime hours
✓ Charge electric vehicles from 12-4 p.m. when grid power is cleanest and more affordable

MCE has been out and about across our communities, connecting with local leaders, supporting youth, and advancing clean mobility! 💚

Here is a quick look at what our team’s been up to across Marin and Contra Costa counties:

🚲 We joined Canal Alliance and Drop Mobility for community e-bike rides and safety trainings in San Rafael. Thanks to our sponsorship of the Pickleweed Park bike hub, participants received free 1-year Redwood Bikeshare memberships, and feedback from the focus groups will help guide our future e-bike investments.

☀️ Staff members Alejandro Castelan, Martin Bond, Tyla Brown, and Javier Montalbo attended Rising Sun Center for Opportunity's Annual Celebration to support green career pathways and workforce development.

🌱 MCE Board Member and Concord Mayor Laura Nakamura, alongside Bilingual Community Development Manager Kiara Donato, celebrated local environmental champions at Sustainable Contra Costa's Leadership in Sustainability Awards Gala.

👥 MCE Board Chair Shanelle Scales-Preston and Senior Partnership Development Manager Tyla Brown met with inspiring young advocates at the Contra Costa Youth Summit.

🏆 MCE Board Member Mark Belotz and Senior Business Development Manager Martin Bond connected with regional enterprise leaders at the Danville Chamber Awards dinner.

As we head into fall, seasonal weather brings heightened wildfire risks and potential power shutoffs. 🍂

Battery energy storage helps keep our communities powered by:

✔️ Keeping critical electricity running during fall power shutoffs and storm outages.
✔️ Storing daytime solar power to run your home or facility during 4-9 p.m. peak hours as days shorten.
✔️ Providing access to monthly residential bill credits, state Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP) incentives, or upfront bridge funding for local facilities.
