Center for Domestic Peace C4DP mobilizes individuals & communities to transform our world so DV no longer exists.

Center for Domestic Peace was founded in 1977 by a group of visionary women operating under the name Marin Abused Womenโ€™s Services (MAWS). Since then, we have helped thousands of women, children, and men to end the violence and to achieve safe, productive lives. MAWS started as a volunteer effort with women being sent to private homes for safety. Over the years, we have grown to provide a wide array of services, which include:

- 24/7 English & Spanish & Youth hotlines
- Safety planning
- Emergency shelter
-Transitional housing
-Drop-in support groups
- Domestic violence response teams
- Information and referrals
-Advocacy, court accompaniment, and referrals
-Group therapy for survivor parents and their children
-Classes and training for men and women to learn how to stop their violence
- Community education and prevention programs for youth and adults
- Technical assistance and training for local, state, and national groups
- Policy development

To better reflect the wide range of our current and future work, in October 2010 we adopted a new name โ€“ Center for Domestic Peace โ€“ where MAWS continues to find its home. Center for Domestic Peace has accomplished amazing things since 1977 and is known as a leader in the field of domestic violence prevention.

Purple is a quiet way of saying: we see you, we believe you, and you deserve safety, dignity, and support on your own terms. We wear it for the survivors in our community, for those still figuring out what they need, and for the loved ones we hold in memory.

This year's national theme, ๐‘พ๐’Š๐’•๐’‰ ๐‘บ๐’–๐’“๐’—๐’Š๐’—๐’๐’“๐’”, ๐‘จ๐’๐’˜๐’‚๐’š๐’”, invites all of us to move from awareness into action. That can look like listening without judgment, trusting survivors as the experts in their own lives, and making sure the people around you know support is there whenever they are ready.

Center for Domestic Peace extends our sincere gratitude to the Marin County Board of Supervisors, especially Supervisor Mary Sackett, for recognizing our contributions to the community and proclaiming October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

This recognition comes at an especially difficult moment for our community. We are heartbroken by the recent tragedy, and our thoughts are with the surviving family members, loved ones, friends, colleagues, neighbors, and everyone affected. This moment is also a painful reminder of why Domestic Violence Awareness Month matters. Domestic violence can affect people in every community, across neighborhoods, professions, and circumstances. We cannot know what is happening inside a home based on how a family appears from the outside.

This recognition shines a light on the importance of raising awareness, standing with survivors, and building a community where everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported.
