Did you know that September is Classical Music Month? There are over 2,200 orchestras in the United States sharing classical music with their communities. Once a year, we have the incredible opportunity to bring together some of the most talented musicians from those prestigious orchestras around the country to create one all-star Festival Mozaic orchestra. The finale concert is the perfect culmination of our annual SLO Summer Music and Arts Festival, and we revel in the fact that the musicians so enjoy sharing the stage with each other for this epic closing event.

The live recording of John Novacek's string octet, *MUSIC FOR 8* performed at Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa on July 29, 2026 is now available! "Feelings of intense gratitude to the superlative musicians," John Novacek shared today. "I was truly touched by their commitment to the piece; their mastery of my little score was astonishing, seemingly none of its sharp turns causing them a bit of trouble. I feel sooo lucky."

We all witnessed something special when Natalie Del Carmen took the stage. Her naturally effortless voice captivated everyone in the room. Her charming anecdotes had the audience both laughing and reflecting on our own memories with friends.

A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, she seamlessly blended traditional folk instrumentation with a modern storytelling style. The guitar was simply an extension of this young performer, and we can't wait to see what she does next. Natalie, what a pleasure it was to host you here in SLO; thank you for perfectly priming the audience for Rachel Baiman.

This was easily the BEST example of why you should never skip the opener...

As always, Mozart in the Mission was a magical evening during the Summer Festival. It's no wonder this is one of the most beloved annual events.

The hall was humming with anticipation... three octets for three very different ensembles, pieces from 2003 to 1923 to 2025. Then, Scott Yoo closed the concert conducting one of Mozartโ€™s most beloved masterpieces, the โ€œGran Partitaโ€ wind serenade, dating back to 1784.
