Thank you to our Board of Directors!

Kevin has served over a decade as the Executive Director of Downtown Ventura Partners, which is dedicated to cleanliness, safety and vitality of Ventura’s historic downtown. In addition, he sits on the Board of the Ventura Community Partners Foundation, the Ventura County Behavioral Health Advisory Board, and the Ventura County Continuum of Care.

Kevin is committed to his community as an active volunteer for The City Center Transitional Living, Ventura Botanical Gardens, and Ventura Social Services Task Force. A former journalist, Kevin was named a “Champion of Mental Health” by the Turning Point Foundation and State Legislative leaders for a series of articles on Ventura’s unhoused population, and was recognized for his work as the Fiscal Receiver and Coordinator of the West Ventura County Winter Warming Shelter.

People don't spend much time thinking about where electricity comes from, but when Pacific Gas and Electric Company visited one of our Learning Centers recently, our students enthusiastically asked questions and chatted about the lessons afterward.

As one educator shared: "After you left, they kept talking about how cool it would be to work for PG&E someday, and there were lots of ideas about driving the big trucks, climbing poles, and helping keep the power on. It was really fun to hear how excited they got about it!"

Thank you, PG&E, for inspiring our students and giving them a glimpse into the people and careers that power our everyday lives.

"What do people do at a bank all day?"

That was just one of the many questions our students had when Community Bank of Santa Maria visited our Paso Robles learning centers for a presentation as part of our Career Curriculum.

From learning about different jobs at the bank to asking thoughtful questions about money, saving, and helping customers, our students were fully engaged and eager to learn.

Experiences like these help children connect what they're learning in school to the world around them, opening their minds to possible careers.

A special thank you to Community Bank of Santa Maria for sharing your time, knowledge, and enthusiasm with our students; and for the snacks and bags that made the visit even more memorable. The smiles said it all!

Sean, a military veteran and long-time resident of one of our properties, had always worked hard to maintain his independence. But over the past year, his health began to decline sharply. As his disability worsened, the stairs leading to his second-floor unit became nearly impossible to navigate. Sean grew afraid to leave his home, worried he wouldn't be able to return safely.

Cut off from his community, he became increasingly isolated. It was clear that without a safe and accessible living environment, his well-being was at serious risk. Working closely with his Social Worker, and with the support of several dedicated partner organizations, we were able to secure a critical exception through the local housing authority, granting Sean a tenant-based voucher. That voucher opened the door to a new beginning!

Sean was soon able to move into an ADA-compliant, first-floor unit at a different PSHH property. Thanks to additional community resources, he also received new furniture and other essentials to settle in with confidence.

Today, Sean is reconnecting with his neighbors, rebuilding relationships with his family, and attending his medical appointments. Most importantly, he shares that he finally feels hopeful again - like he has a true new lease on life.

Sean is one of the 1,200+ residents who receive comprehensive supportive housing services through People's Self-Help Housing.
