Babs receives a LOT of calls and reports, so while youโ€™re waiting to hear back, three important things:

1๏ธโƒฃ ๐’๐“๐€๐˜ ๐๐”๐“ & ๐’๐“๐€๐˜ ๐‚๐€๐‹๐Œ. If your dog went missing, remain at the point of escape whenever possible. Driving around searching can spread your scent and actually make things harder.

2๏ธโƒฃ ๐Š๐„๐„๐ ๐“๐‡๐ˆ๐๐†๐’ ๐๐”๐ˆ๐„๐“. Donโ€™t organize a search party, chase, yell the dogโ€™s name or send people running after them. A frightened dog may be in flight modeโ€”even with people they know.

3๏ธโƒฃ ๐ƒ๐Ž๐โ€™๐“ ๐’๐“๐€๐‘๐“ ๐“๐‘๐˜๐ˆ๐๐† ๐‘๐€๐๐ƒ๐Ž๐Œ ๐‘๐„๐‚๐Ž๐•๐„๐‘๐˜ ๐Œ๐„๐“๐‡๐Ž๐ƒ๐’. Every dog and every situation is different. What works for one dog can push another farther away. Wait for Babs to help build the right plan.

So what does Babs actually do?

Sheโ€™s a ๐ฉ๐ž๐ญ ๐ซ๐ž๐œ๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฒ ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ž๐œ๐ข๐š๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ. In most cases, she works directly with owners by phone to assess how the dog disappeared, their personality and behavior, sightings and movement patterns, then develops a recovery plan specifically for THAT dog. When needed, she also works in the field using cameras, feeding stations, scent, tracking patterns and humane traps to safely bring evasive dogs in.

This was one of SIX separate strays Babs Fry helped secure in ONE WEEKโ€” โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

While Babs was simultaneously helping families search for their missing petsโ€”and coming off the incredibly difficult rescue of our Train Track Girlsโ€”she and an amazing team of people were also working to get this sweet girl safely out of the Pine Creek brush.

She had been surviving out there for weeks in the extreme summer heat. Early mornings, cameras, neighbors watching, a whole lot of patience and teamworkโ€ฆand finally, she was SAFE. โค๏ธ

She is now known as Cora, a 4-year-old spayed pittie, Animal ID , at San Diego County Animal Services Bonita Shelter. Her stray hold has ended, no owner came forward, and she is now waiting for someone to give her the next chapter she deserves.

๐€๐ง๐ ๐ฌ๐ก๐ž ๐ข๐ฌ๐งโ€™๐ญ ๐š๐ฅ๐จ๐ง๐ž.

We can get them safe but are space, volunteer and donation driven so canโ€™t take them all into rescue. There are several others still waiting unclaimed and unadopted. ๐Ÿ’”

Getting them safely off the streets is only the first step.

Two very different stories. Two dogs who needed us to say YES when walking away after we captured them wasnโ€™t an option.

Because this community showed up, both of them got the care they desperately needed.๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

AWHFD isnโ€™t a big organization with deep pockets or large donor backing. Weโ€™re a small, donation-based nonprofit trying to keep the lights on, keep 80+ bellies full, provide medical care, maintain the rescue, fuel the miles drivenโ€”and still answer the calls from our community when a lost, scared or injured dog needs help.

But there are countless expenses behind the scenes every single day that make those ๐˜๐„๐’๐ž๐ฌ possible!

It helps us know there will be food in the bowls, gas in the vehicles, lights at the ranch and resources available when the next desperate call comes in.
