After the SCA Northern Data Sharing meeting on October 25, CASSP is hosting a Heritage Hike on October 26. See the flier below. We will meet at the Wakamatsu Farm, near the town of Coloma, California. These archaeological events are free and open to the public. CASSP will provide snacks and water for the hike. Don’t forget to register for this hike by sending us an email with your contact information at [email protected]. When we receive your reservation, we’ll follow up with a map and more details. Anyone interested in site stewardship is welcome.

We are very excited to arrange this CASSP Heritage Hike with the American River Conservancy which owns and manages the Wakamatsu Farm. The Farm is on the National Register of Historic Places. We look forward to seeing you there.

The San Diego County Archaeological Society is pleased to offer a Native American Scholarship to promote Native American

Preference will be given to applicants connected to a tribe in San
Diego County or, alternatively, a Native American from
elsewhere in California or the United States living in our county. Applicants must attend a college or university in San Diego

elsewhere may be considered.

The deadline for the San Diego County Archaeological Society’s Native American Scholarship is Nov. 1.

Last year we awarded two $500 scholarships to Native Americans
from our county. This year we will have at least one scholarship

Is anyone interested in helping local robotics teams learn about archaeology? We have several teams searching for information from archaeologists to help them with a challenge.

There is still time to sign up for our fieldtrip this Sunday!

Come join the San Diego County Archaeological Society on Sunday, August 24th for a free tour of the hidden murals on San Diego State University campus. The tour will be led by Shannon Farnsworth, who did her graduate dissertation on the history and archaeological importance of how these art pieces reflected the changing cultural landscape of the university and the greater San Diego area from the 1930’s to the 1970’s.

The tour is open up to 30 people. We’ll meet at 11:00 am at the dome entrance to the Malcom A. Love library. The tour will last for approximately 1.5 hours, so wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water as it will likely be warm. To sign up for the tour, please e-mail Tim Wolfe at [email protected]. They can provide more detailed directions for visitor parking on the campus and getting to the dome library.

We hope to see you out there for what will be an interesting and informative tour of the lost and forgotten murals at San Diego State University.
