On this Memorial Day weekend, there are many ways and events to remember more than one million military men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. 🇺🇸

Here's just a few of them.
Many of our HFSD Vets, Guardians, and team will be at Miramar National Cemetery tomorrow at 1 p.m. The keynote speaker is CAPT Steve Shepard, USN, (Ret.) who is often our Saturday night banquet speaker on the Honor Flight. The ceremony includes music by Westwind Brass, a bagpiper, singer, and bugler to play Taps. There will be plenty of parking and golf cart shuttles to assist. It is free to attend and open to the public.

On Monday, we will be Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial for their ceremony at 11 a.m. Organizers have reserved seats for our HFSD Veterans and supporters. The ceremony is open to the public and free to attend.

And, the USS Midway is hosting their legacy week with lots of events onboard the ship.

No matter how you choose to spend your weekend, please remember those who gave their all in defense of our nation, and all the families they left behind. There is a Gold Star Family memorial at Miramar National Cemetery that you can visit and pay tribute to the families of the fallen.

Who's going to the GI Film Festival San Diego?

It is an amazing few days of storytelling and the stories you would not hear about in history books. It kicks off on Wednesday night through Friday night at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park. There's something for everyone!

This year’s three-day festival will feature 15 compelling films that explore service, sacrifice, and the lived experiences of service members and veterans, while also showcasing the creativity of veterans through films that tell stories outside of the military sphere.

Each screening will include a post-film panel discussion, giving audiences the opportunity to hear from filmmakers and engage directly with the stories on screen, including conversations with actors, film subjects, and subject-matter experts.

For more than a decade, the GI Film Festival San Diego has been a time-honored tradition, bringing together service members, veterans, military families and caregivers, filmmakers, history lovers and movie enthusiasts to celebrate the art of military storytelling through film.

Each year, the festival presents a diverse lineup of films that highlight the experiences of service members and veterans, as well as the challenges that often go unseen in the lives of caregivers, spouses, and military children.
