We've been excitedly anticipating this report on subprime auto loans from the Center for Responsible Lending We've worked with Lucia and Alex on multiple occasions and were happy to support their research by connecting them with our Minnesota borrowers who have experience with this form of predatory lending. 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐅𝐢 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐮𝐲 𝐚 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐤! Exodus Lending just submitted our public comment letter opposing Opportunity Financial’s (“OppFi”) acquisition of this national bank. OppFi is a notorious predatory lender that charges almost 200% APR on personal loans. Minnesota bans interest rates above 36%, but national banks can avoid strong interest rate caps. Allowing OppFi to become a national bank would unleash triple-digit interest rate loans in states like Minnesota, where high-cost lending is illegal.

We are calling on our congressional representatives to tell the Federal Reserve Board, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation that the last thing Minnesotans need are predatory, debt-trap loans!

Exciting news from the Minnesota Attorney Generals' office!

We’re not surprised that AG Ellison’s office is deeply concerned about the interest rates and terms of Brigit’s loans. We have been refinancing loans from Brigit for a while now, and are thrilled to see financial institutions being held accountable to the strong consumer protections Minnesotans fought hard to win.

The interest on some loans is above 700%, according to Keith Ellison’s office. The company says it does not violate the law and will fight the lawsuit vigorously.
