VIPCare Founded in 1967, VIPCare is an interfaith, not-for-profit counseling and educational institute and one of the nation's leading pastoral counseling centers.

Today is Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

Long before Richmond had a name, the land along the James River was home to the Powhatan peoples. Virginia’s tribal nations, including the Pamunkey, Mattaponi, Chickahominy, Rappahannock, Monacan, and Nansemond, are still here, still raising families and carrying their traditions forward.

Many Indigenous traditions have long held what therapists keep relearning: people heal in community, and our spirits and minds are not separate things.

Native communities also carry some of the deepest wounds in our country’s story, passed down across generations. Today we honor their strength, and we commit to listening.
