Dues paying members who reside in Virginia are automatically members of both the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia and the national American Civil Liberties Union. Membership donations and other contributions to either the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia, Inc. or national American Civil Liberties Union are not ta

x-deductible. The ACLU Foundation of Virginia is a non-profit organization that provides legal assistance and conducts educational programs. Donations to either the ACLU Foundation of Virginia or the national ACLU Foundation are tax-deductible.

Vote YES for marriage equality! 🌈

This year, we celebrate by standing alongside our LGBTQ+ neighbors and our partners to continue fighting for marriage equality.

Love is a Virginian value – but right now, our laws don't reflect that. Virginia’s Constitution STILL has an outdated ban on same-sex marriage. This November, YOU have the opportunity to right that wrong and enshrine marriage equality into our state constitution.

Virginia is for ALL lovers – let's make it a reality for today, tomorrow, and generations to come.

We're suing the Trump administration for detaining children — again.

Our clients have been unlawfully held in a Virginia facility for almost a YEAR. So we're taking Trump's Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) to court to fight for their release.

Kids should be in homes, not cages. We'll keep you updated.

Are you a Virginian with a felony conviction who can't vote? Now you MIGHT finally be able to.

June 1 is the first day THOUSANDS of Virginians with felony convictions – disproportionately Black Virginians – should be able to register to vote under a recent court order. But the Commonwealth has NOT reached out to tell Virginians if they’re eligible or how to register.

If you think YOU should be able to register to vote today, reach out to us at [email protected].

TODAY: The court ordered that Ms. Gyasi — a pregnant mother — and her son will NOT spend another night in Dulles Airport.

Ms. Gyasi's health and the viability of her pregnancy have both been endangered for more than a week as a result of the Trump admin's dangerous and unlawful detention practices.

While we’re relieved that Ms. Gyasi and her son will be free from this nightmare, NO ONE should be held illegally or subjected to the inhumane conditions they endured.

See you in court.

Anabella Gyasi is here for a medical appointment for her son. But because of the dangerous and unlawful detention conditions they’re being held in at Dulles Airport, and the government’s failure to provide Ms. Gyasi with appropriate prenatal medical care, the Trump administration is endangering the lives of Ms. Gyasi, her unborn child, and her son.

We are going to court tomorrow to fight for them.

"I am fighting for abortion rights because I had access to it when I needed it the most. Everybody should have that access. I am fighting for everybody behind me," said Heather St. Amand.

Heather is a mother, an organizer with the ACLU-VA, and an advocate for reproductive freedom. Having access to abortion saved Heather’s life and put her on the path to fight for reproductive healthcare.

Heather is now leading the ACLU of Virginia’s organizing effort to rally Virginia voters to amend Virginia’s Constitution to protect reproductive healthcare. Here's her story: https://vist.ly/55ruv
