James River Outdoor Coalition (JROC) is a non-profit organization that supports the James River Park System through donations and volunteer efforts to improve park facilities. JROC also takes an active role in issues that affect the Park System's useage and its natural resources.

🌿 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: REEDY CREEK LOT IMPROVEMENTS 🌿

Join JROC on Saturday, October 17, from 9 a.m. to noon. We’re looking for 10–12 volunteers to help prepare the Reedy Creek lot for improved parking.

We’ll install about 30 parking bumpers and split-rail fencing, drive rebar to secure the bumpers, prune trees and cut vines, and remove sections of chain-link fencing.

📍 Meet at 9 a.m. at the City of Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Facilities headquarters, 4001 Riverside Dr, Richmond, VA 23225. We’ll walk together to the Reedy Creek lot.

If you have them, please bring gloves and water. If you have a dolly or sledgehammer, feel free to bring it along!

This Sunday come out to for a get-together for the river community organized by legendary Richmond paddler Gary 'Zeke' Zebrowski!

In case you don't know Zeke, he is an old-school Richmond boater from a simpler time, before cell phones and online river gauges made things too easy. Zeke has gone back in his phone book, calling everyone he's known for over 40 years of paddling on the James and beyond to gather at Legend for some old-fashioned storytelling and camaraderie.

🚨JROC needs six volunteers this Saturday, September 26, at 9 a.m. at Great Shiplock Park.

We’ll tear down the old changing room and Port-A-John enclosures and help install sheathing on the new facilities. Both will be universally accessible.

If we get extra hands, we’ll tackle a cleanup at Chapel Island, too.

We're sorry to say that the September 2nd concert with Get The LED Out has been cancelled.

However... We ARE still getting down with Greensky Bluegrass & Béla Fleck - My Bluegrass Heart on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 3RD - and we still need volunteers for that event! If you are interested in volunteering on September 3rd, please visit the link in our bio and fill out the form!

🌊 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: VAUXHALL ISLAND CLEANUP 🌿

Join JROC, James River Park System staff, Richmond Fire Department and Keep Virginia Cozy for a cleanup of Vauxhall Island and the areas beneath nearby bridges.

📅 Friday, August 28
⏰ 9:00 a.m.
📍 Meet at the 14th Street Takeout

We’ll remove litter, abandoned debris, old bike frames, signs and other items that have accumulated in the area. Transportation to the island will be provided, but volunteers are welcome to bring their own boat. Volunteers will be provided with heavy-duty gloves and grabbers!

Not familiar with Vauxhall Island? It’s a wooded, nearly three-acre island in the James River near Richmond’s Mayo Bridge/14th Street Bridge. Most downtown river trips pass right by it, making it one of the last natural spaces paddlers see along their journey. Keeping it clean and healthy matters to everyone who enjoys the James.
