James River Outdoor Coalition (JROC) is a non-profit organization that supports the James River Park System through donations and volunteer efforts to improve park facilities. JROC also takes an active role in issues that affect the Park System's useage and its natural resources.

We're sorry to say that the September 2nd concert with Get The LED Out has been cancelled.

However... We ARE still getting down with Greensky Bluegrass & Béla Fleck - My Bluegrass Heart on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 3RD - and we still need volunteers for that event! If you are interested in volunteering on September 3rd, please visit the link in our bio and fill out the form!

🌊 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: VAUXHALL ISLAND CLEANUP 🌿

Join JROC, James River Park System staff, Richmond Fire Department and Keep Virginia Cozy for a cleanup of Vauxhall Island and the areas beneath nearby bridges.

📅 Friday, August 28
⏰ 9:00 a.m.
📍 Meet at the 14th Street Takeout

We’ll remove litter, abandoned debris, old bike frames, signs and other items that have accumulated in the area. Transportation to the island will be provided, but volunteers are welcome to bring their own boat. Volunteers will be provided with heavy-duty gloves and grabbers!

Not familiar with Vauxhall Island? It’s a wooded, nearly three-acre island in the James River near Richmond’s Mayo Bridge/14th Street Bridge. Most downtown river trips pass right by it, making it one of the last natural spaces paddlers see along their journey. Keeping it clean and healthy matters to everyone who enjoys the James.

The river is a place of restoration, recreation, reflection, adventure. Access for all is a necessary, not an advantage reserved for the “who’s who”. Without access, mental health, community, and feeling connected to the outside world suffers. Therefore protecting it is not an option, but an obligation.

What we see here is a moment in time. The magic of noticing. When our community is able to access the beautiful James, the impact is immeasurable.
