We are very pleased to welcome as our speaker on June 9 author and historian Cory M. Pfarr, who will be speaking on "Longstreet at Gettysburg: The Allure and Endurance of the 'Lee Intended' Arguments." Pfarr's presentation offers a unique analysis of Confederate General James Longstreet's performance at the Battle of Gettysburg.

Cory M. Pfarr is the award-winning author of "Longstreet at Gettysburg: A Critical Reassessment" (2019); "Righting the Longstreet Record at Gettysburg: Six Matters of Controversy and Confusion" (2023); and the forthcoming "The Federal Signal Service at Antietam: Stations, Officers and Battlefield Intelligence on America's Bloodiest Day" (2026). His essays and scholarship have appeared in several magazines and publications and his work has been featured on the Pennsylvania Cable Network and C-SPAN's American History TV. He has presented his research at the U.S. Army War College.

Interested in becoming a member of the Richmond CWRT?

We have great speakers scheduled for the rest of year, including Historian/Author Jack Davis at our November dinner meeting. Annual field trips are done in October to battlefields and/or museums. We meet on the second Tuesday of every month at the Weinstein JCC, 5403 Monument Avenue, Richmond.

We are very pleased to welcome back to the Round Table historian, author, and Gettysburg Licensed Battlefield Guide JIM HESSLER, whose topic on Tuesday, May 12, will be "Lee's Other Lieutenants: Richard Ewell and A.P. Hill on July 1 at Gettysburg." Jim will discuss some pivotal decisions made by Ewell, Hill, and their subordinates on Gettysburg's first day. These and other topics from Jim's recent book, "The First Day at Gettysburg," will be covered. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m.

James Hessler is the author or co-author of four books on the Gettysburg campaign: "Sickles at Gettysburg," "Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg" (with Wayne Motts), "Gettysburg's Peach Orchard" (with Britt Isenberg), and "The First Day at Gettysburg." His work has earned several distinguished book awards. Hessler also co-created and hosts the popular "Battle of Gettysburg Podcast" and has appeared as a public historian in major media and in programs and content development with the American Battlefield Trust. He is a frequent speaker at Civil War Round Tables and we are looking forward to welcoming him back in Richmond.

Please join us for our first meeting on Tuesday, March 10, in our new venue, The Weinstein Jewish Community Center, 5403 Monument Avenue, Richmond, 23226. We are very excited to welcome historian and author, WAYNE MOTTS, whose talk is entitled, "Lee's Maryland Brigadier: The Life and Times of Confederate General James J. Archer."

Wayne will explore the interesting life of one of Lee's brigade commanders in the Army of Northern Virginia. This presentation will explore Archer's early life, pre-Civil War military service, and his service with the Confederate Army, including his time as POW and death from disease in Richmond in 1864.

Wayne E. Motts is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Civil War Museum located in the state capital of Pennsylvania at Harrisburg. He has been a Licensed Battlefield Guide at Gettysburg National Military Park for 38 years.
