It's going to be a Foam Free Summer! Virginia's foam ban will be in full effect on July 1st!

"Virginians are ready to say farewell to foam,” said Elly Wilson, Environment Virginia’s state director, “This bipartisan law will keep harmful single-use foam products out of our environment and protect the wildlife that often confuse this plastic [with] food.”

All Virginia food vendors must stop using expanded polystyrene food containers, a material similar to Styrofoam, by July 1 as part of a 2021 law.

Protect pollinators by not fogging your yard this summer!

Mosquito fogging not only broadly spread harmful pesticides that endanger pollinators and human health; it does little to actually solve the problem.

Mosquito "buckets of doom" on the other hand target larvae- stopping the next generation in its tracks. This pet, pollinator and people friendly method is easy, DIY and pesticide free! Make your own this summer and help us !

Happy ! Last month, we hosted a wildlife crossing tour with Congressman Don Beyer. Congressman Beyer is sponsoring bipartisan legislation to invest in wildlife crossings across America.

We were joined by congressional staffers who had the opportunity to learn about the legislation, habitat connectivity and wildlife crossings.

Thank you Congressman for all your work on wildlife and driver safety, Fort Belvoir for granting us access to the crossing, Trapper Fowler from Wild Virginia for providing incredible insights on best design practices for crossings and all the staffers who came out to learn about this simple way to protect wildlife!

Happy Earth Day, Virginia!

Our environment is beautiful, dynamic and full of life. We fight for our earth everyday but today we will also take a little extra time to celebrate it. So get outside, wander a trail, smell the flowers, listen to the birds, feel the soil and remember what we are fighting for!

Did you know Virginia State Parks has several Dark Sky designated parks? To celebrate International Dark Sky Week, we are featuring our favorite place to stargaze and the first state park in Virginia to receive the designation: Staunton River State Park.

The park features miles of waterfront hiking, pristine fishing and some of the darkest skies on the east coast.

Quick moment of zen in the garden and a great reminder that birds and other wildlife are thirsty on these hot days too.

Putting out water for wildlife including pollinators, birds and other critters is a great way to keep your yard wild! Just make sure to regularly dump standing water to avoid misquito breeding.

The 2nd annual International Plastic Pellet Count is just around the corner and we need Virginians to join the effort!

Plastic pellets, also known as nurdles, are the raw material used to make many familiar plastic products like water bottles, grocery bags and food containers. Unfortunately, these microplastics are often spilled, leaked or dumped into the environment, especially our waterways, during manufacturing and transport. As a result, they frequently wash up on riverbanks, lakeshores and beaches.

To illustrate the extent of the problem, volunteers across America and beyond are hosting pellet counts and clean-up events at their local waterways on Saturday, May 2nd to help identify plastic pellet pollution and make the case for action.

Sign up today to join people from around the world and hunt for plastic pellets in a waterway near you!

Join us for the second annual International Plastic Pellet Count to help identify plastic pellet pollution and make a case for action.
