Women, Witches and a World Premiere. WitchDuck Opens Tonight.

In 1706, a Virginia woman named Grace Sherwood was tied up and thrown into the water. If she floated, she was a witch. If she sank, she was innocent — and gone.

WitchDuck, the world premiere play by Virginia-based playwright Eva DeVirgilis, brings Grace’s story back sharp, funny, and unfinished.

Directed by Rebecca Wahls, the production features an incredible ensemble and design.

May 8 through May 24 on the Carol Piersol Stage at Firehouse Theatre.

We at Cadence are so grateful to have filmmaker and theatre artist Rebecca Wahls working with us! She recently led an on-camera workshop at RPAA’s Lights Up! Youth Series event and it was fantastic! Thank you to parent Tiffany Stevens for capturing these behind-the-scenes photos and videos, and to RPAA for offering this incredible free opportunity to our community. This is what artists showing up for each other looks like.

A huge thank you to American Theatre Magazine and Celia Wren for capturing this moment in history: the world premiere of Eva DeVirgilis’ WitchDuck. We are deeply grateful for the foundation Chris and David Lindsay-Abaire built through Pipeline that made this possible!
