Today, on Memorial Day, The American Legion Posts across the Department of Virginia took the time to remember our Brothers and Sisters who did not make it back home, alongside the many communities that our Posts serve throughout the Department.

While Post Families were at the local level gathered in their communities to remember those we have lost through service to our Beloved Country, many from our Department were also present at the memorials in Washington, DC, and Arlington National Cemetery today. While serving our country takes sacrifices from our troops and their families, it is important to remember our Brothers and Sisters in Arms that made the ultimate sacrifice of all.

The form will also be on our website under upcoming events.

On May 6th, 2026, The American Legion Department of Virginia was at the 72nd Annual Patients Country Fair, held at the Hampton VA Medical Center in Hampton, Va.
The Dept Commander, Scott Maddrea, was joined by incoming Department of Virginia President, Dr. Deborah Blanch, 3rd District Commander Mat Calhoun and numerous members of the 3rd District Department of Virginia.
Participants also included members from the 2nd District Department of Virginia, along with The Marine Corps League, DAV, VFW, and Salvation Army.
Ambulatory patients go booth to booth and collect everything from treats, to personal items and are treated to a meal of fish, chicken, green beans, potato salad, baked beans and bread. Patients not able to come out receive box lunches of the same meal delivered to their rooms. A great time was had by all in attendance.
