Who shows up on the worst day of your life?

This week is National EMS Week. It’s a moment to honor the paramedics and EMTs who run toward the emergencies most of us hope to never face.

They kneel on living room floors. They hold a stranger’s hand in the back of an ambulance. They bring calm into the hardest minutes imaginable.

At Valor RVA, we’re grateful for the EMS providers who serve Greater Richmond, and we’re committed to supporting their resilience and wellbeing.

Today, on Peace Officers Memorial Day, we pause to honor the law enforcement officers who gave their lives in service to their communities. 💙

We remember the fallen. We stand with the families left behind. And we recognize every officer who continues to serve with courage and integrity.

Did you know that approximately 65-70% of firefighters in the U.S. serve as volunteers? That's more than half a million people who answer the call, leaving dinner tables, warm beds, and their own families behind, without a paycheck waiting on the other side.

This National Volunteer Week, we're honoring the volunteer firefighters and EMS crews who embody service in its purest form. They train hard, show up harder, and ask for nothing in return but the chance to protect their neighbors.

To every volunteer First Responder: your courage shows up where the rest of us can't. Your community notices. We notice. Thank you for everything you do. 🙏

Longtime Richmonders, this one's for you. 🏛️ If you were around in the 80s and 90s, the name Dick Strauss likely rings a bell. The local car dealership owner was a familiar face across RVA for decades. What you may not know is that back in 1989, Dick helped found The 100 Club of Richmond, the organization that would grow into what we are today: Valor RVA.

From a handful of community-minded folks wanting to stand behind our First Responders, to 35+ years of support for the families who've borne the greatest costs, it all traces back to that first spark.

Decades later, Dick's car still bears a 100 Club bumper sticker. That's how much this mission means to him. 💙

This week, we're honoring National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and the dedicated professionals who are the first voice you hear in an emergency. These unsung heroes work around the clock, staying calm under pressure and helping save lives with every single call.

Each year, an estimated 240 million 911 calls are made across the U.S. That's more than 600,000 calls every day, and behind every one is a dispatcher ready to respond with care, clarity, and commitment.

To the voices who guide us through our most difficult moments, thank you. Your service makes our community stronger and safer, and we are proud to stand alongside you.
