Quiet courage deserves a loud thank you. On December 10, we’ll gather as a community at the 36th Valor Awards to make sure our Richmond-area First Responders hear it.

For many First Responders, the hardest work happens when no one is watching. The Valor Awards exist to change that. For former recipient Denise Smith of the VCU Police Department, they are proof that the sacrifices made to protect our community are seen and that they matter.

Join us December 10 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center as we honor this year’s recipients at the 2026 Valor Awards Breakfast.

Every fire that never starts is a call our firefighters never have to run. A risk they never have to take.

This Fire Prevention Week, the best way to support our firefighters is to give them fewer reasons to run into danger. ✔️Check your smoke alarms. ✔️Unplug what you're not using. ✔️Charge devices on hard surfaces.

Your small actions help protect the First Responders who protect us.

Some partnerships are built to last. 💙

We're proud to announce the sponsors of the 2026 Valor Awards! Year after year, so many of the same businesses return to stand behind the First Responders who protect and serve the Greater Richmond Region. That kind of loyalty means everything to us, and to the men and women we honor.

Want to join them? It's not too late! Gold, Silver, and Table Sponsorships are still available. Learn more at the link below.

Every day, First Responders show up for us— supporting Valor RVA is how we show up for them. 💙

Your support means:
⭐ Covering funeral costs for fallen First Responders so families don’t face that burden alone.
⭐ Helping dependents of those killed or permanently disabled in the Line of Duty with living and medical expenses.
⭐ Providing wellness and mental health training to protect those who protect us.
⭐ Funding safety equipment and training that keeps First Responders prepared and safe.

Happy first day of fall. 🍁

This summer, First Responders across our region kept people safe on the James River and waterways throughout Central Virginia. We're grateful for every patrol, every rescue, and every life protected.

Water emergencies don't follow the calendar. Whether it's a July afternoon or a January flood, our First Responders are ready. Thank you for being there, all year long.

Our mission deserves full-time leadership, and we've found it. Richmond BizSense sat down with Marissa Lima, our first-ever full-time Executive Director, to talk about her Richmond roots, her First Responder family, and what comes next.
