Today, we proudly celebrate both Flag Day and the 251st Birthday of the United States Army.

On June 14, 1775, the Continental Army was established, beginning a proud tradition of service, sacrifice, and defense of our nation. For 251 years, the United States Army has stood ready to protect our freedoms at home and abroad.

On this same date, we also honor Flag Day, remembering the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the symbol of our nation. Our flag represents the ideals of liberty, unity, sacrifice, and service. It flies because generations of Americans have answered the call to defend it.

The Sons of The American Legion, Detachment of Virginia, extends our sincere gratitude to all soldiers, veterans, and military families. We also pause to honor the flag of the United States of America and all that it represents.

Happy Birthday, U.S. Army, and Happy Flag Day!

Today, we celebrate the birthday of the United States Army and honor the soldiers who have defended our nation since 1775.

From the Revolutionary War to today's missions around the globe, generations of Army soldiers have answered the call with an unwavering commitment to duty.

To all who have worn the Army uniform: thank you for your service and sacrifice.

Happy 251st Birthday, Army!

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Past Detachment Commander A.D. Carter, who led our Detachment from 2012 to 2013.

PDC Carter was a pillar of our organization and a dedicated servant to our mission. His legacy of leadership is deeply felt across the state, most notably through his tireless and instrumental work in securing the charter for Squadron 34.

Beyond his dedication to his Squadron, A.D. was fiercely passionate about shaping the next generation of leaders. He was heavily involved with Virginia Boys State, where his commitment to mentoring young men and instilling the enduring values of good citizenship left a lasting impact that will carry on for years to come.

Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with his family, his friends, and all the members of his squadron and post during this difficult time.
