Over the past few months, the CRC has been busy at work! 👷🏽🌱

Our Community Resilience Crew specializes in Green Infrastructure installation and maintenance, making our community a healthier, cooler, more resilient place to live. The CRC spent a lot of time working with our apprentices, teaching and showcasing what work is like within Green Infrastructure!
Some highlights of their work this summer include constructing a French Drain at Richmond Hill to manage stormwater, building a shelter to protect the RVA Community Fridge from the elements at 6PIC, and watering trees across the City of Richmond to maintain our survival rate of 95%!

If you have been wanting to have your trees maintained and watered, scan the QR code on the flyer, and contact Kate for your tree needs!

Thank you, CRC!!! 🌳✨🛠️

This summer we had our first cohort of our Green Infrastructure & Arbor Care Apprenticeship program, and it was a total success! 🌳

From March through July, the apprentices gained hands-on experience installing and maintaining green infrastructure while earning industry-recognized certifications, including OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR, HAZWOPER, Chainsaw Safety, and Landscaping Tools & Equipment. More importantly, they built the skills and confidence to pursue careers in the growing green infrastructure and urban forestry workforce. 👷🏽🌳✨

Following graduation, our apprentices continued building their skills through additional work experience with the CRC, putting their training into practice and gaining valuable experience in the field.

Congratulations to our first graduating class! 🎓✨🌱

With the perfect amount of work, play, and learning, Green Team spent their time doing it all this summer! 🌳☀️

They started with Pocahontas State Park: they learned about local wildlife, practiced archery, worked on service projects, and camped overnight! Green Team also spent a week in Shenandoah National Park, getting out of their comfort zone with tent camping and enjoying the hard work they put into the Dark Hollow Falls trail. 🏕️✨🥾

Locally, Green Teamers continued thermal imaging, exploring parks, doing farm work, and so much more! They finished off with a white-water rafting trip (featuring Bike Shop and Katie!)

Take a look at their fun! ✨🌱

It was a busy summer at the Bellmeade Bike Shop! From getting a new program fleet ready to roll, to riding around the city, Bike Shop made the most of every mile. 🚴🏾
Our youth mechanics brought their skills from Build-A-Bike into the shop for 6 weeks this summer! They helped flip our new program fleet, run open hours, and gain hands-on experience in the shop. They also visited a local bike factory, explored the city on group rides, and connected with other youth bike programs. 🛠️🚲✨
Bike Shop even teamed up with Green Team for a Capital Trail trip! And to top it all off, they headed to Shenandoah for a camping trip full of adventure! 🏕️🌲

Take a look at their summer fun! ✨🚴🏽‍♀️
