Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming residents from Cedarfield for a bus tour and behind-the-scenes look at Better Housing Coalition’s work across the Greater Richmond region.

From meaningful conversations to shared stories and plenty of laughter, the day was a wonderful reminder that lasting change begins with connection. Together, we explored how safe, stable, and affordable housing creates opportunities for individuals and families to thrive.

Some visits mean a little more than others. 🏗️

We recently had the honor of welcoming Earl Brooks (second from left), son of the original owners of the historic Colbrook Motel, for a hard hat tour of the future Colbrook Apartments.

As we walked the site together, Earl shared memories of the motel and reflected on its incredible legacy as one of Virginia's Green Book destinations. It was a powerful reminder that this project is about more than creating 144 affordable homes. It's about preserving history, honoring the Brooks family, and ensuring the story of the Colbrook Motel continues for future generations.

Thank you, Earl, for trusting us with this important piece of history and for allowing us to be part of its next chapter. We look forward to welcoming you back when Colbrook Apartments opens its doors.
