Hi there! We’re the Gipes - founders and executive directors of Cedar Refuge. 🌲

We’re building a nonprofit dedicated to creating a safe haven for children who have been trafficked in America.

Our vision is a regenerative ranch where children can find healing in a peaceful, holistic environment. Through trauma-informed care, education, life skills, meaningful work, animals, nature, and loving relationships, we hope to provide a place where kids can heal, grow, and rediscover childhood.

Our primary focus is serving teen boys (yes, boys are trafficked too) and young children under the age of 10—two populations that are often underserved.

We know this is a big vision, but we believe every child deserves a safe place to heal and a chance at a brighter future.

Hey there! We’re the Gipes, and we started a nonprofit called Cedar Refuge - a future safe haven for children who have been s*x trafficked in America. 🌲

We’re sharing the journey as we work toward opening our doors to kids in need and creating a place where healing, hope, and restoration can happen.

1️⃣ Continued Relationship With Shasta County:
Pray for favor, wisdom, and strong partnerships with Shasta County leadership and agencies. Ask God to continue opening doors for collaboration.

2️⃣ More Long-Term Volunteers:
Pray that God would bring committed, mission-minded volunteers who are willing to invest their talents and hearts into the work of Cedar Refuge.

3️⃣ Steven & Brandyn’s Personal Time With God:
Pray that our leadership would remain rooted in Christ; seeking His guidance daily.

4️⃣ Our Future Youth:
Pray for the young people God will bring to Cedar Refuge. Ask Him to prepare their hearts, provide healing from past wounds, and surround them with the right staff who will point them toward hope and restoration.

5️⃣ Our Future Staff
Pray that God would raise up the right team members to help carry out the mission of Cedar Refuge. Ask for individuals who are compassionate and equipped to serve vulnerable youth with excellence and love.

For too many young people, the gap between crisis and stability is where exploitation takes hold.

At Cedar Refuge, we’re working to close that gap—providing safe housing, therapy, support, life skills, and community so vulnerable youth have a path forward before traffickers can step back in.

Every young person deserves more than survival. They deserve safety, stability, and the opportunity to thrive.

Horses are weird 😂🐴🥲

Fresh bath = immediate mud roll apparently.

As goofy as they can be, horses are also incredibly grounding and therapeutic animals. One of our hopes for Cedar Refuge is to eventually have an equine program where kids can build confidence, connection, and trust through caring for and working with horses.

TOUR DAY!✨

If you’re new here… we’re the Gipes, and we’re building a refuge for children recovering from s*x trafficking in America.🌲

This year is dedicated to program and business plan development… which means TOURS!

We’re visiting programs, ranches, and regenerative farms that operate with similar models and values to what we are building toward. Getting to learn from people already doing this work is incredibly valuable as we shape Cedar Refuge.

Our friend Pat let us trail ride through her property on horseback, which was such a gift. Since we hope to have an equine program one day, this was especially meaningful - and Brandyn loved watching Steve maneuver a horse for the first time 😂🐎

Rockside Ranch was also such a blessing to visit. They run a residential healing program for men recovering from crisis, addiction, trauma, and more while operating a regenerative farm. Seeing a model so closely aligned with the heart behind Cedar Refuge was incredibly inspiring.

The bakery and butcher shop are also part of their program, helping fund the mission while giving the men meaningful work experience in a mentored environment. What they’ve built is truly special.

They even invited us to join their community night where we got to meet the men in the program, the staff, and some of their four-legged friends. We left feeling encouraged, inspired, and even more excited for what’s ahead.
