Recently, we were invited to attend a guided hike on Mt. St. Helens, hosted by the Mount St Helens Institute!

Five Big & Little matches, along with Program Specialist Oscar, enjoyed a brief presentation about the volcanic eruption in May of 1980 before their hike.

Although it was rainy and foggy, and they couldn't see the mountain from the viewing deck, everyone had their spirits up. The hike took them on a short loop where they learned about volcanic rocks, petrified ashes, symbiotic relationships between algae and fungi living on trees, and all that the institute has been able to research about how land and its habitats change after a violent volcanic eruption.

They were lucky enough that the fog cleared out and they got to see the landscape before leaving!

This week, Erin celebrates her 11th anniversary with Big Brothers Big Sisters!

Erin is our Director of Programs, overseeing everything from enrollment of Bigs and Littles, to matching mentors with youth, match support, planning match activities, and so much more.

"I want to highlight the JOY my job in programs has given me for over a decade," Erin said. "From pumpkin patches with matches, to celebrating our graduates annually, fundraising, hosting our annual Gala...I can count on our goals at BBBS CNW to include joy along the way, and I have come to appreciate to the highest degree the impressive, inviting, and inspiring caliber of people I get to work with at BBBS CNW."

💚New Match Monday!💚

Say hello to our newest match, Big Elliot (he/him) and Little Kyle (they/them, he/him)! They met at Kyle's home for chocolate chip cookies, where they bonded over a shared love for art 🎨and animals 🐈. They're still deciding on what their first outing will be, but look forward to doing something fall-themed!

Big Sarah (she/her) and Little Caelyn (she/her) have only been matched 4 months, but they've already found a common passion— bedazzling! They love getting together to bedazzle all kinds of things. Sarah also recently took Caelyn out for a spa day to celebrate the start of Caelyn's freshman year.

During their introduction meeting, Jessi and Sophia quickly bonded after learning that they are both Geminis ♊. For their first outing, they plan to get dinner at an Italian restaurant and bring coloring books to work on while they wait for their food.

Big Patrick (he/him) and Little Michael (he/him) were excited to participate in the CAST for Kids Foundation fishing event last month at Hagg Lake. They learned about the event through Michael's parent, Lori, who has volunteered with CAST for years.
