Dear Friends,

For the last 40 years, Friends of West Slope Library has proudly held library fundraisers such as the Annual Tulip Sale, the used book sale, and BottleDrop Give bag collection days. As well, we’ve been fortunate to have the support of many generous donors who share our commitment to the library and the community it serves. We cannot thank you enough for the countless hours, energy, and resources you have contributed as board members, general members, and volunteers. You have truly made a difference!

On July 1, ownership and management of West Slope Community Library will transfer from Washington County to the Garden Home Community Library Association (GHCLA), a nonprofit that has owned and managed Garden Home Community Library since 1983. After the transfer, GHCLA will oversee fundraising efforts for both libraries.

Following many thoughtful and heartfelt discussions, the Friends of West Slope Community Library will dissolve and cease operations as of July 1, 2025. We are tremendously proud of the work we’ve accomplished together and are confident that GHCLA will continue to support the vital role West Slope Library plays in our community.

We encourage you to support GHCLA as you have supported the Friends. Their success will be key to the ongoing success of both West Slope and Garden Home Community Libraries (https://www.gardenhomelibrary.org/support-your-library).

All Bottle Drop donations to Friends of West Slope Library get an additional 20% bonus from the Bottle Drop Give Promotion!

Pick up Bottle Drop blue bags at West Slope Library, fill them with returnable cans and bottles and drop them off at your local Bottle Drop Location now through December 2nd and the Bottle Drop Give Promotion for non-profits gives an additional 20% to Friends of West Slope Library.

OR

The 20% additional refund is also given to the Friends of WSL when you transfer some or all of your personal Bottle Drop personal Account funds during this period. This direct donation feature is available through the Bottle Drop website where you manage your account.

The Bottle Drop Return program is now the biggest fundraiser for the Friends of WSL. We use these funds to support the various programs at WSL including the Take and Make kits, the Wi-fi Hot Spot(s) loaners, new furnishings, and “Girls that Code” team participation.

We so appreciate the support from you with Bottle Drop donations. Thank you for all you have given us so that we can increase what our library gives back to its patrons. .

It's time for the BottleDrop Collection Day! July 13, Saturday at the West Slope Community Library. 10am to 2pm. The bottles and cans do NOT have to be in the Friends Blue Bags. We appreciate all that you donate.

Picture below is some Friends of West Slope Library Board at the Raleigh Hills Business Association SHRED Event last Saturday. It was so much fun! We were able to support the RHBA, and got to distribute more BottleDrop bags to welcoming recyclers.

If you missed this event and the previous Saturday's BottleDrop pick-up at the Library, you can still help us. This is also true for blue-bag drop offs at the BottleDrop Redemption Center.

The Bottle Drop Pick-Up at the Library was supposed to be this Saturday, January 13. However, due to the incoming snow storm and extreme cold, we are postponing the pick up until January 27.

We hope to see you on January 27. Thank you for your continuing support.

December 9 is almost here, and we are ready for another Bottle Drop Pick-Up at the Library. It will be Saturday, December 9, 10am - 2pm. We so appreciate your Bottle Drop donations.

Please note that if you have your own Bottle Drop account, you might consider making a donation directly from your account to the Friends of West Slope Library. It's easy, and also so appreciated.

The Friends continues to raise money to support the "extras" at our Library: Hot Spots, "Take and Make" kit materials, and Summer Reading programs.

Next time you are in the library, please take a look at the circulation desk, as it now notes that the desk was donated with Friends funds - which are the result of your continued support.

You can also make donations through PayPal, of course, checks and cash. It all works.

Dear neighbors and friends,

Thank you *so very much* for supporting the Friends of West Slope Library by bringing your bagged cans and bottles to our BottleDrop Give fundraiser at the library parking lot last Saturday! We collected well over 100 bags - an all-time record! The blue bags will be turned into BottleDrop, and your recyclables will be turned into a cash donation to West Slope Library. 👏🏼 👏🏼

The Friends will have another can and bottle bag collection on Saturday, December 9. You can pick up blue bags inside the library in the book sale area. You can, of course, drop filled blue bags at any BottleDrop location at any time, but we also appreciate seeing friends, neighbors, and library patrons on collection days!

Big $5 Used Books Bag Sale today at the West Slope Library! Fill a paper bag (included) with books, games, CDs, and movies from our tables and shelves until 3 pm today! Come on by and check out our great selection

Bottle Drop Returnable Can & Bottle Collection and Used Book Blow Out Sale this Saturday, Oct 14th from 10am to 2pm. It’s an easy way to support our fantastic local library!

Bring your returnable cans and bottles (beverage containers with an Oregon refund value) to the West Slope Library parking lot at 3678 SW 78th, Portland, OR 97225 from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, Oct 14th.

The refund value will go to support library programs, like Take & Make Crafts, Summer Reading, youth activities and WiFi hotspots. If you’re unable to make this time, stop by the library and pick up a Bottle Drop Blue Bag, fill it up and drop it off at any Bottle Drop location and the refund value will be credited to Friends of West Slope Library.

Additional Collection dates at the library parking lot will be Saturday Dec 9th and Jan 13th.

Also, be sure to come in the library on Saturday, Oct 9th from 10am to 3pm for our Blow-Out Used Book $5 Bag Sales. Fill a provided paper bag with used books and materials for only $5. There will be treasures to take home!
