"For the solid first three months it felt like I was in a dark hole, and it was really difficult."

Shawn Johnson East has spoken openly about how her son's colic amplified everything she was already carrying, turning ordinary moments into fight-or-flight, and the early weeks of motherhood into something she describes as a dark hole.

Perinatal mental health disorders can be triggered or intensified by so many things. Whatever brought you here, your experience is valid, and you don't have to stay in that dark place ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’™ 1 in 5 women experience perinatal mental health disorders during pregnancy or postpartum.

That means millions of mothers are struggling quietly while trying to care for their families, often without the support they need.

With Connect the Dots campaign ending June 1, weโ€™re asking our community to help make a difference by starting a Facebook Fundraiser for Postpartum Support International.

You do not need to be an expert in fundraising to help. Even raising $25, $50, or $100 can help connect families to:
โœ” Free support groups
โœ” Mental health resources
โœ” Provider education & training
โœ” Peer support for parents in need

And yes, once you create your fundraiser, you can make a donation directly to your own fundraiser, and it will go straight to PSI. Every dollar matters.

HOW TO START A FACEBOOK FUNDRAISER:

1๏ธโƒฃ Visit the Postpartum Support International page
2๏ธโƒฃ Click the โ€œFundraisersโ€ tab
3๏ธโƒฃ Select โ€œRaise Moneyโ€
4๏ธโƒฃ Choose your fundraising goal
5๏ธโƒฃ Write a few sentences about why this cause matters to you
6๏ธโƒฃ Share your fundraiser with friends and family

Simple ideas to help your fundraiser succeed:

๐Ÿ”ต Share a personal story or why you care about maternal mental health
๐Ÿ”ต Ask friends to donate instead of buying coffee or takeout one day
๐Ÿ”ต Post updates as donations come in
๐Ÿ”ต Thank every person who donates or shares your fundraiser
๐Ÿ”ต Remind people that 1 in 5 families are impacted

You never know who in your community may need this support someday.

Together, we can remind parents everywhere: You are not alone ๐Ÿ’™

She thought she was the only one.

The mom who canโ€™t sleep.
Who avoids leaving the house.
Who smiles in public but is silently struggling.

But she isnโ€™t alone.

1 in 5 moms experience a maternal mental health disorder.

If a mom asked you for $5 because she needed help, would you give it to her?

Today, you can.

Your donation helps PSI connect moms to free, life-saving support, support groups, education, providers, and hope.

Only 3 days left in Maternal Mental Health Month.

๐Ÿค Share this post to your story

๐Ÿค Help another mom feel less alone by sharing your story and starting a 24-hour Instagram fundraiser in honor of your experience as a 1 in 5 mom and survivor.

"Reach out, tell your doctor the truth, donโ€™t hide your reality. Ask for help, donโ€™t be afraid, go to someone you trust, and at the very least call a help line, reach out to other moms, have someone else who can look at you and say, youโ€™re not alone."

That's the message Juanita wants every struggling parent to hear. Her survivor story is live today on the PSI Blog, and it is a beautiful, honest account of what it looks like to unravel and to find your way back ๐Ÿ’™

"I felt like I was not a good mom."

If one of the greatest athletes in the world can feel like she isn't doing enough, that tells us something important: this is not a personal failure. It is a feeling that far too many new parents carry, quietly, and alone.

Postpartum depression and anxiety can look like guilt. Like never feeling like enough. Like going through the motions while something feels deeply off. You deserve support ๐Ÿ’™

1 in 5 parents will experience a perinatal mental health disorder (PMHD) during or after pregnancy, yet so many families still struggle to find support, answers, or even the words for what theyโ€™re experiencing.

Thatโ€™s why PSI exists ๐Ÿ’™

Through support groups, peer mentors, support coordinators, expert chats, online communities, and the PSI HelpLine, families are connected to real support every single day.

Because healing starts when someone moves from:
โ€œSomething feels offโ€ฆ" โžก๏ธ โ€œThis has a name.โ€ โžก๏ธ โ€œHelp is here.โ€ โžก๏ธ โ€œI can get better.โ€

This Maternal Mental Health Month, weโ€™re continuing to CONNECT THE DOTS between recognition, resources, support, and healing.

No parent should have to navigate pregnancy or postpartum mental health challenges alone ๐Ÿ’™

โœจ Spot it. Share it. Support it.

Navigating new parenthood is hard. Navigating it as a q***r parent right now, while the news cycle never stops and the future feels uncertain, is something else entirely.

In our newest PSI Blog post, Madeline Korth LISWS writes openly about her own experience with postpartum depression, the particular weight of fear and visibility that comes with being an LGBTQIA+ parent in 2026, and the coping strategies that have helped her stay grounded when the uncertainty feels like too much.

If any part of this resonates with you, you're not alone and this community sees you ๐Ÿ’™
