On Earth Day, PBS SoCal released the episode "LA's Stadiums Confront Their Environmental Impact," shining a light on how Los Angeles' biggest sports venues are reducing their climate impact through innovative waste, water, and energy solutions. From cutting-edge recycling programs to energy-saving upgrades, these stadiums are leading the way in zero waste sustainable practices.

Part of the solution at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum are the digesters from Biocotech Americas, which allow the stadium to continuously process food waste and compostables to meet their waste diversion goals.

🏆 Congratulations to Green Sports Alliance Board Member Suki Hoagland on her induction into the Wesleyan University Athletics Hall of Fame, Class of 2026!

Suki's story is a powerful reminder of what one person's persistence can build. A three-sport athlete at Wesleyan (field hockey, diving, and lacrosse) during the early years after Title IX, she competed in all 12 consecutive varsity seasons of her undergraduate career–including diving on the men's team before a women's program existed, and helping establish women's lacrosse at Wesleyan.

After watching female athletes go unrecognized at two straight year-end sports banquets, Suki used her own money to have trophies engraved for standout women athletes. The following year, five women were honored; her family's gift of a sterling silver tray bearing their names became the foundation for what is now the annual Suki Hoagland Award for Outstanding Contribution to Women's Sports.

Congratulations, Suki! We're proud to have you on our team. Wesleyan Athletics' 2026 Hall of Fame class will be inducted November 6 in Middletown, CT.

✨ New member announcement: Biocotech Americas

BioCoTech Americas provides on site food waste solutions through our BioSpeed in vessel composting technology, helping organizations reduce food waste volume by up to 90% while reducing hauling, costs, and environmental impact. Our systems are already operating at universities, airports, resorts, stadiums, and other large facilities across the U.S.

We are joining the Green Sports Alliance because sports and entertainment venues are uniquely positioned to lead the transition toward more sustainable food waste management. We look forward to connecting with Alliance members, sharing what we have learned from real world deployments, and helping more venues turn food waste into a resource directly on site.
