"I spend a lot of energy doing the math in my head. What can I skip? What food can I make last? What can I afford right now?"

For Jordan, a CareOregon member and full-time college student with a part-time job, having reliable access to nutritious food until the next paycheck is a constant challenge.

His story is one that many Oregonians can relate to. Food insecurity affects thousands of people across our state and can impact both physical and mental health. Through the Health-Related Social Needs (HRSN) nutrition benefit, eligible members may be able to access nutrition supports that help make healthy food more accessible.

Back-to-school season is here and healthy lunches can help your child stay energized, focused and ready to learn. 🍎🥪

With grocery costs continuing to rise, preparing nutritious meals can feel challenging for many families, but small, affordable choices can make a difference. Try packing lunches with a mix of fruits or vegetables, whole grains and protein-rich foods like beans, eggs, cheese or canned fish.

Community organizations, health care providers and local resources can help families access food and nutrition support when they need it.

What an amazing weekend supporting local families at the Back-to-School Block Party and Community Kermés! 🎉 ✨

We were proud to co-host this community celebration alongside Community Services Network, Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland Metropolitan Area, Latino Network and Open School. Families came together to enjoy free school supplies, fun activities, community resources and opportunities to connect before the new school year begins.

Events like this show what’s possible when community organizations work together to support children and families. Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered and helped make the day a success. 🧡
