We meet the 3rd Saturday in Jan, Apr, Jul. & Oct. Genetic Genealogy is the use of DNA testing to aid traditional genealogical research. It does not replace research but helps prove or disprove its accuracy. Please join us. It’s free and open to the public.

Jim Bartlett will be giving a presentation entitled “Segmentology and Common Ancestor Spreadsheet.”

A brief overview of "Segmentology Fundamentals" (Segments; Groups; Tools) and then a deeper dive into the Common Ancestor Spreadsheet, a great tool. Record your known cousin Matches with Common Ancestors with their path back to the CA. Add columns of interest to you: company, cousinship, clusters, URL to them & Trees, segments, interrelationships, false/iffy lines, etc. Captures a key data set - offline; search and sort; easy data analysis: your (curated) "Shared cM Project"; ProTools aide; etc.

Jim Bartlett has been a genealogist since 1974. Into DNA in 2002 when he started the BARTLETT surname Y-DNA project at FTDNA. Tested at every major company. Hosts an Advanced DNA SIG in MD. Triangulated over 20,000 segments into 372 Groups; documented over 10,000 Matches with CAs in a Spreadsheet Tool. This meeting is for those who are interested in DNA testing and its use in genealogy. Each month, this group comes together to discuss different DNA websites, new tools, and methodology for genealogy purposes. From time to time, there will be presentations or shorter mini-presentations and demos given by various people. General questions regarding DNA testing are welcome following the planned discussion. Lisa McCullough leads this group.

As this is the first time since we've met in a while, I thought we could talk about the latest Ancestry updates. Do you have them yet? Do you think they will help you? Why or why not? After this discussion has run it's course, we can then move to other DNA related topics, as time allows.
