Speaker Bio: Sierra Goncharoff is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor in the State of Oregon. She practices naturopathic primary care, with an emphasis in gastrointestinal and women’s health, as well as obesity management. She received her doctorate from the National University of Natural Medicine in 2019, followed by a 2-year residency at the NUNM teaching clinic. Dr. Goncharoff is passionate about helping patients on their healing journey and providing them the education and support they need in order to accomplish this.
🎤 Prescribing for Obesity: Practical Guidance on Current Pharmacologic Options (1 Pharmacy CE Hour)
Obesity is a chronic disease that often requires pharmacologic treatment in addition to lifestyle intervention. In recent years, the availability of new obesity medications, particularly glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists, has expanded treatment options for clinicians. However, questions remain regarding appropriate prescribing, patient counseling, and side effect management.
This lecture will review currently available pharmacologic therapies for obesity, indications and contraindications for each, along with practical guidance on medication selection and dosing. Common and clinically relevant adverse effects will be reviewed, with a focus on monitoring, management, and safety considerations in routine practice. By the end of this session, clinicians will have a practical framework for integrating obesity pharmacotherapy into comprehensive, patient-centered care.
