Global electric vehicle adoption is hitting new heights, with EVs and plug-in hybrids on track to make up 29% of all new car sales worldwide this year, up from just 4% in 2020.

Spiking gas prices and energy security concerns are accelerating clean transportation shifts across the globe:
⚡ Total sales of traditional internal combustion engine vehicles are expected to fall to their lowest level since the early 2000s.
⚡ Since the Iran conflict began in February, EV sales have roughly doubled in countries like Australia, Colombia, and South Korea compared to the same period last year.
⚡ EV purchases in South Africa quintupled in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025.

Stories like this one are why we fought to keep the Affordable Mobility Platform running. For over a year, federal funding for our nationwide electric carshare program was frozen. The Affordable Mobility Platform continued because communities believed in it. Now, we're thrilled to share that U.S. Department of Energy funding has resumed, keeping the carshare available to drivers across the country through at least June 2027. We're also back to offering technical assistance to communities interested in starting their own carsharing services.
