Every day, our Health & Wellness Specialist Gary heads out for a walk around the Cultivate Hub, our home base and the heart of our community. It's more than just a cleanup. It's a chance to connect with neighbors, check in on needs, and make sure the block we all share is something everyone can feel good about.

From picking up litter to having real conversations about how we can better support our unhoused neighbors nearby, Gary leads the charge with care and consistency. Because for us, community isn't just a word. It's something we show up for every single day. 💛

For the second year in a row, critical workforce programs - such as those at Cultivate Initiatives - that help our unhoused neighbors prepare for and secure stable employment are on the Multnomah County budget chopping block.
When facing budget deficits, it can be tempting to look at employment services as a nice-to-have, not a need.
But as quoted in the Oregonian, getting back into a steady job "changes people's lives."
Funding these programs provides a direct pathway from survival and crisis to self-sufficiency and dignity. Stable income and regular routine through working is not secondary to housing, it is critical to it.
We are incredibly grateful to Commissioners Vince Jones-Dixon, Shannon Singleton, and Julia Brim-Edwards for introducing amendments to fully restore over $4 million to the Workforce budget.
Programs like Cultivate Initiatives’ Workforce program prove every day that when our unhoused community members are ready to build stability, they just need a helping hand and an opportunity. Let’s protect what works.

Programs meant to help homeless people train for and find jobs are once again in a “political sportsball match.”

Beautifying our community and providing showers and hygiene services doesn't stop when the temperatures climb. If anything, those services matter even more in the summer heat. Our team shows up every day to make sure people have access to what they need to feel clean, dignified, and cared for.

Want to help us keep going strong through the heat? Our wish list has exactly what we need to keep the work going all summer!
