🎉 Thank you to our wonderful volunteers who made our fall fundraiser an extra successful one! 🙏

🍱 We had so many volunteers that woke up at the crack of dawn to make sure we gave our community the best possible food over multiple days in advance! The laughter and good time we shared while prepping made the time fly!

🙇 To our supports who ordered so much food, thank you and we hope it was extra delicious!
Please continue to come and chant the sacred Lotus Sutra and O-Daimoku at 10AM every Sunday (except the 5th Sunday of the month) 😊 📅

🌟Rev. Yamamura talking about the Six Paramita’s which is an important aspect of O-Higan and how we can better ourselves during the period of O-Higan.

The Six Paramitas disseminated by the Buddha include the following: generosity, ethical conduct, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom. The Buddha says that these are the ways we can reach Buddhahood. Of course, they are broad for a reason, and are meant to be practiced in daily life, not just kept in the mind through scholarly understandings. It is difficult for us to practice these, but of course, that is why we practice and why we chant the O-Daimoku.

Hope to see you next week! 🌟

Rev. Yamamura blessing our food with the following dialogue: The rays of the sun, moon, and stars which
nourish our bodies, and the five grains of the earth
which nurture our spirits are all the gifts of the
Eternal Buddha. Even a drop of water or a grain of
rice is nothing but the result of meritorious work
and hard labor. May this meal help us to maintain
health in body and mind and to uphold the
teachings of the Buddha to repay the four debts of
gratitude and to perform the pure conduct of
serving others.
I humbly accept this meal. (Itadakimasu)

🌟Thank you Rev. Yamamura! This past Saturday, he performed the O-Higan service for our temple and for all those who have passed away.

His Dharma talk was simple, to explain that O-Higan is a time to reflect upon oneself and our ancestors. Moreover, it is important to think of all the ways we can be grateful. He reminded us that many people are not as fortunate as us, and that we can help and include everyone in our pursuit of the Dharma. He was also nice enough to speak with our attendees about the daily practice of Buddhism and how we can chant morning and night. To finish, he spoke of the 6️⃣ Six Paramita’s a fundamental aspect of O-Higan whereby we can become good people and Buddhist by following: generosity, ethical conduct, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom.

Let us all chant the O-Daimoku throughout the week, being grateful for all that we have, and lending a hand to others. 😊

What is O-Higan? 🧐 🌊
O-Higan means “other shore” in Japanese and is a time when our ancestors come from the “other shore” to this Saha world. Rev. Yamamura will be praying for our ancestors for this special service. It is perfectly normal to be curious and not know what our practice is about, and only an open mind is necessary to attend! 😃

The period of O-Higan is also a time for us to think of our ancestors and to thank them for helping us when they were in this world. O-Higan is also a time to try to perfect ourselves as Buddhists and to think of others in this specific time of year.

📋If you would like, please send in the names of your ancestors who want to be acknowledged and prayed for, along with a $10 donation per name to our temple, which helps sustain our temple.

Rev. Yamamura will address questions after the service about how we can practice Buddhism every day and how we can chant every day.
