In August 2026, Dr. Mark Cantrell tragically lost his life during the catastrophic floods and mudslides in Nepal. Mark dedicated his life to a fundamental truth: everyone deserves access to quality healthcare, no matter where they live. To honor his legacy, and together with his son, Nikolas, Global Links is establishing the Mark Cantrell Memorial Health Resilience Initiative in Bolivia. Led on the ground by Mark’s widow, Karina Zelaya—our Bolivia team leader since 2012—this initiative directly equips remote, indigenous communities facing disaster emergencies.

These maternal backpacks help healthcare workers bring essential medical supplies directly to pregnant patients in rural and remote communities. 🎒

Equipped with tools doctors need for in-home prenatal visits and to assist with births, these backpacks help bring care closer to mothers and babies when reaching a healthcare facility isn’t easy.

Friends and family celebrate the life of Kay Jennings, longtime volunteer and supporter of Global Links.

Kay Jennings showed up for her family, for her friends, for the groups she dedicated her time to, and for more than 30 years, she showed up for us at Global Links.

Kay began volunteering with us in the early 1990s, organizing monthly group shifts for Pittsburgh Area Peace Corps Association (PAPCA) while also volunteering alongside her husband, Dick, on a weekly basis. Together, they gave thousands of hours of their time to help improve health for all.

After our warehouse team restores IV poles to like-new condition, we provide them to hospitals and clinics where essential medical supplies and equipment are in short supply.

In July, we recovered nearly 200 IV poles from UPMC Washington Hospital that were being replaced. Some of these restored IV poles are already on their way to hospitals and clinics in Bolivia, while others are staged and ready for our upcoming health improvement projects.
